Meh. Why not? It looks racey and that's what they're going for. Inevitable for race tech to bleed down into street bikes....after all, isn't that how they justify the R&D?

Only the aliens of MotoGP will really notice the difference and extract any benefit from .... like this. Doesn't mean it won't help them sell a few more units for the "cool factor".

Guess the V4R next year will be sporting winglets as well then or a motogp inspired aero fairing .-)

Pointless comes to mind. Since it's not under GP regulations they could have at least gone with real winglets and not a cube on each side.

Kinda makes me glad I like Ducatis, that is fugly. The bike overall is ugly.

It's only available on the bikes ordered through the racing program. No street bikes. Also, it's an optional item.

Can one wedge a beer can or Red Bull in there?

Horizontal cup holder...

Winglets destroy the bike. It needs an update in looks and is starting to look dated but this just makes it worse.

Some of the guys here know that I do a lot of work in Formula One, specifically with the cars themselves. Most people know that current F1 cars are so incredibly focused on aero and this trend is only going to get more emphasized going forward. From my first hand experience, the amount of aero features and devices employed on every Formula One car is astounding - and much more than I ever realized before I started developing tech for Formula One. Despite having less power and mechanical grip (tires) than the cars of the last decades, today's F1 cars lap faster than ever. It is only a matter of time before this comes to motorcycles.

Last year we started seeing winglets used in earnest in MotoGP. This is going to get more pervasive in the coming seasons. If that's the case and there's no legislative action by the FIM or whoever to stop that, it will not be long before they are regularly deployed on street superbike bodywork, especially homologation bikes and race replicas. I'm telling you: it's coming.

i wonder how these effect the riding experience whether they make the bike easier to turn in or how they disrupt airflow.

I'm all for this trickle down tech and we are lucky in the motorcycle world that it happens reasonably quickly and in the grand scheme of things is not that expensive compared to the car world.

.

The wings help hold the front down, both under acceleration and at top speed. These wings also create drag. The bikes with a lot of down-force are more difficult to manoeuvre, riders have to deal with some understeer in the corners; but they also excel at straight line acceleration. As ever the art is the right balance between additional drag, additional down-force and reduced manoeuvrability.

Ugly as sin for sure but with that much hp these types of wings are definitely going to be necessary imo. Even a modern liter feels squirrely when youre hard on the throttle at top speeds so i couldnt imagine another 50 hp pushing you
