what's on those handlebars?

Hey all,

Can anyone tell me what's that thing on Pedrosa's handlebar that's sticking out. I think i've seen that somewhere but not sure what's its for.

Keeps jackasses from hitting the brakes for him if they "make contact" when it gets tight.
 
That's a cattle catcher to push slow mid-packers (Hayden, Spies, the CRT bikes, etc.) out of the way if he doesn't get on the front row.
