It looks like there is no way to get the front tire off the ground more than an inch or so before traction intervenes. Or at least this is the case in race mode with DTC set on '2'. Although I could simply turn DTC completely off, this looks like it would be a trade off when riding aggressively and when you need the DTC. Any thoughts?

I was confused at first and found the 1199 incredibly hard to predict. Give it a handful of gas and it'd lose traction, then stall for a second, and then would either accelerate violently or want to loop.

Then I started giving it full throttle in first and second -- as in all the way to the throttle stop just to see if I was going to die and surprisingly only right before redline would the front rise. Perfect for 99% acceleration, but now when I want a wheelie all I get is TC intervention. Whereas before it would wheelie all the time now it's impossible. I've switched from DTC 1 to DTC 6 and it just doesn't behave like it used to (haven't tried turning DTC off, though). Could be that after 3300 miles the rear tire has a smaller diameter and the electronics are cutting in more fervently?

Intersting I noticed that same thing. In race mode I have dtc set to 3 and the front end will hover off the ground on hard acceleration in 2nd and 3rd. Maybe 2-4 inches off the ground. However, in sport mode (i have sport set at 195 lo dtc set to 4) the front end will come up and do very nice wheelies. Interesting. Clearly there is some sort of antiwheelie logic going on in the ECU. My bike is a base no ABS.

I was always taught that any power taken to lift the front wheel off the ground any more than needed for effective weight distribution to the rear tire is wasted and not doing anything to move you forward. As such I am just as happy that the front end stays low in race mode.

But it is interesting learning how the different settings have an impact on how the bike reacts. I wonder if there is any AI in there somewhere?

I know it's stupid and all the rest to want to wheelie from time to time, but I can't get it up (so to speak) I have it in race mode HI and nothing yet. My 1098 was hard to keep down.

I'd have no problem in first or second getting it up. In first I found out that if I snap the throttle hard the DTC would intervene after getting the wheel up almost to balance point, but if I was smooth it wouldn't. Pretty much the same in second, too quick of a throttle response will cause it to intervene, but full throttle it and it will come up smoothly around 8,000 rpm. In third and fourth it floats and I get a bit of headshake that the steering damper works out for me, soon as I hit fifth it evens out and pulls straight. I think that if you do a quick snap on the throttle the DTC doesn't like the sudden input, but be slightly smooth with it and it will come up easy and won't intervene. To be honest I think it has more to do with wheel spin than anything. Your front tire will rotate for a while when your up correct? Imagine doing a fast snap on the throttle to get it up, your rear tire will be traveling much faster than your front, DTC intervenes, comes back down. Now, doing a smooth response, your front is spinning at the same rate if not slightly slower than the rear tire, therefore DTC doesn't sense that they are out of rate for a while longer, and you can keep it up higher and longer than doing it the other way. At 8, it has less of a tolerance for the wheels being out of the same rotation rate. At 2, it will have more of a tolerance for being out of rotation rate. If you have trouble bringing it up try it in Race mode, then try a fast snap and a smooth but aggresive roll on and see if it makes a difference. Hope this helps!

I ride in sport mode with the 195hi throttle mode. I sat back a bit on the way to work last week in second under fairly hard throttle and it hit 8k and came up so fast and high it was untrue, took me by surprise I can tell you. And I have the full system with less power apparently (yeah...right....bollocks!)

Had the same experience also rode the bike a week without the upmap, upmap makes a HuUuge difference! I've noticed being smooth on the throttle helps kinda trick the traction control or it's built in, donno but it sure lifts fast after 8k rpms!

I usually ride in race mode, I havent had any problem with clutching the wheel. I will try in sport mode, but it came up fine for me in race. Maybe it would be erratic in sport mode. In race mode it still comes up very fast, I think its all get used.

There is no anti wheelie electronics on the 1199 . Wheelies are easier to control in race mode as the relationship between "throttle" opening and throttle body opening is more direct . Oddly enough I also prefere hi throttle response in the wet as it is easier to keep a tort connection between throttle and back wheel , low seems to distort feedback.

I'm beginning to wonder if the suspension that i need to get sorted is the issue here. I'm 107kg without gear so i think the rear spring is too soft for me, it didn't seem to wheelie as much in F but does in P. the front is light everywhere.

As soon as we get a few weekdays without rain in this bloody country, it's off to Ducati for that bolt recall, then Maxton for a full suspension set up, might go back to F too for that.

I'll see if it helps. I'm one of those weird people that likes the bike to go off like stink not go clawing at the sky!

i ride in default Street setting (traction control set to 5)

It will wheelie once the rear tyre is heated up before that traction control kicks in hard.

roll on the throttle hard at 4-6k rpm in 1st gear and it comes up no problem

I dont know about you guys but i can do a one block wheelie with the sport mode. Clutch or power wheelie.

it's even sweeter with the quick shifter... although i am still learning to do that properly..

I changed back to Flat from Progressive for a lapping day tomorrow. Curious to see if it makes it easier to pop.

As someone have said before the front will go up its just a matter of pinning the throttle down. I had DTC on 5 all stock base and mine came up around 7k and up out of no where.

As an ex stunter, I've had no issues clutching up wheelies, and I've haven't really played with any of the settings. Lean/scoot back a little, clutch, rev rpms, and voila. If you wanna do power wheelies, yes it's going to come up, and quick. This thing will wheelie in 2nd and 3rd all day. The days of riding wheelies down the the highway at 80-120 mph are gone, as are slow parking lot ones. Different stroke for different folks I guess. That's why I got into Ducs, So I wouldn't beat the snot out of them (stoppies at 90 mph, burnouts for days, highchairs). But who doesn't like to loft the front end a tad on occasion.
Good luck and be careful. We don't need threads of people that flip etc.

Was in Race mode last night, hit the throttle hard last night off the line, the front came up so damn quick - thought I was going to lose it.

looking at the manual, in Race mode the ABS is front wheel only disabling anti lift-up. in sport mode with ABS active at both wheels, the anti lift-up is activated. the higher the ABS setting the higher the anti lift-up feature. in 2nd gear my front wheel gets light about 8k in sport mode. Race mode in 2nd lets the front tire breathe a little easier

I think that is referring to stoppies, not wheelies?
