Question: which protocol is used by the dealers for the DDS on a 1299?

Would that be CAN1 or CAN2 (iso15765-4) or is it a complete different protocol?

We're figuring out a way to hook up my bike online with my Ducati dealer down in Europe. Right now we're busy with remoteOBD2 but we need to know what protocols Ducati uses..

Handy to reset service indicator and upload new updates etc..

I'll check this week but I'm inclined to think it won't work, the DDS uses a physical USB key to authenticate the DDS hardware that attaches to the bike work and it's attached to the local machine, it's not as simple as you attaching a OBD2 to your bike and them connecting in but to be fair I've never seen it tried just going on my knowledge of how it works locally.

Hi Geek, thanks for your response!

So what you mean is that the dealer needs to plug in a USD stick into my bike for authentication?

The base of my problem is (of course) that we live in a island with no dealers whatsoever, closest dealer is 1500 miles away in Miami..

I have no intention (or knowledge) to pook around in my mappings of software. Just trying to find a way to reset my service interval and upload some new software updates if available. I would be happy to go to a dealer (a pay a few dollar for it) if there only was one around here.

in our search we came across this company which claims to do OBD connections online:

Remote OBD2 Communication Services

We contact them with our question and the needed to know what protocol Ducati uses.

But please, maybe you have better solutions of suggestions!

Hi Geek, thanks for your response!

So what you mean is that the dealer needs to authenticate the bike (using a usb stick) in person?

We're trying to figure out a way to reset the service indicator or upload new updates online. We live on a island in the caribbean and the nearest dealer is 1500 miles away in Miami. No intentions (or knowledge) to pook around in the software or mappings, would be happy to go to the dealer if there was one overhere.

We came across this company which claims to be able to do online connections for OBD and OBD2 (like a long extension cord) using a device. But they need to know the protocol Ducati uses.

Remote OBD2 Communication Services

Maybe you have better suggestions of ideas? (or trouble shooting solutions..)

Is the USB stick, which you referring to, physically attached to the DDS system at the Ducati dealer or to the bike?

Maybe check out this website:

Remote OBD2 Communication Services

My dealer (down in Europe) is willing to cooperate with the experiment. (especially cause we're not planning to pook around in the software, he is in control through the DDS..)

We're just trying to find a way to replace the physically cord between the DDS dealer device and my bike cause the are 9000 miles apart..
