Will base get Ohlins??

I really see either Showa since they already handle the 899 or KYB doing it as they have the new R1 base model forks and those things are sick. Although it would be nice to see Nix 30's standard on all Pani's!

It won't get Ohlins, I would bet a paycheck on that.

1. There needs to be a definitive specification difference between the base and S to justify the additional cost.

2. Adding Ohlins would raise the cost of the base model by $2-3k, thereby rendering the S almost useless.

3. The majority of the general public neither wants, needs nor has the desire to pay for Ohlins suspension as 99% of these bikes will never see a track.

Wish in one hand .... in the other see which one fills up first

I for one think it be incredible for what you pay for a base model offered to have Ohlins but I doubt it will ever happen

I agree with what the other have said. Ohlins won't be introduced because of their feature on the "S". It would essentially ruin the value of the S and a lot of customers wouldn't be too happy about that.

I was just getting ready to order a Hypermotard SP to go with my 1199 R. I guess I better wait and see what happens.

My preference would be the Showa Big Piston forks that are on the 899, they're great forks.

Kinda depends on the situation.

They are good forks for the street.

They suck on the track (at anything near a competitive pace). Ive tried them on several bikes and they always get shitcanned. I think they are barely good enough to use when Coaching.

Of course this is just my opinion.

You should try a decent suspension tuner a decent tuner can get anything working well . ;)

Haha. :D

We actually did try back when the BPF's first became really popular. We just couldn't get them to perform like we were used to (with Ohlins) and they didn't provide the kind of feedback I liked.

that is a legitimate point though I believe you could easily find a drop in kit to upgrade any marzocci forks for the rest of your life. Probably Ohlins stuff too.
In other words You will never be unable to ride your bike because of this- there will always be replacement parts available and the upgrade thing is not as proprietary as you would imagine .

so you could use this as a bargaining point to purchase the bike you want and with the money you've saved you could upgrade the sh*t out of those marzoos....

Well, no doubt anyone riding at a competitive pace on the track is going to have different suspension needs, and that's never going to be focus of a manufacturer. Even the Ohlins stuff on the S model "sucks" for hard track use at a race pace, you always have to upgrade internals/valving to get them set up correctly. Hell, even the gas-charged forks on the Desmosedici got blasted for "sucking" on the track by race-pace riders! It's all relative. But compared to the Showa forks on the 749/999/848/1098 I found the Showa BP forks on the 899 to be better, including on the track at a moderate pace. The Marzocchi's on the base 1199 were pretty good on the track too, only suffering from a lack of compression damping at the real limits of hard braking. But I still replaced the internals with Ohlins cartridges on them to get the feel I was used to.
