WSBK Akrapovic Exhuast @ Laguna Seca

Hmmm looks like the can outlets are recombined into the single exit pipe?
or perhaps the exhaust for one cylinder exits as per the traditional design and the exhaust for other cylinder exits out the rear to reduce the amount of bends. It's hard to see.

Maybe something to create a "scavenging" effect? By combining the two, into one, you end up with less backflow and maybe better exhaust gas velocity and faster flow?

Just my conjecture.

Kewl. Saw that during the races and was curious about it as well. Whatever they're doing, they're finally on the right track with a convincing double at Laguna Seca, a power-intensive track.

Sadly, the 1199 will still go down as having the poorest race record of any modern ('88+) Ducati SBK. Perhaps due to politics (or lack of influence over those politics), I don't think they will ever be the dominant force they used to be.

I think the two headers converge into one right before entering the left side can, exit out the front via connector to the front of the right side then through to the periscope exhaust. Bit in function like the Comp Werkes exhaust, but obviously mucho more refined. I think the external can shapes are as much for making it look like a production bike as anything else; who knows what the internals look like!

The Comp Werkes one:

I've read they have flapper valves in that system, only the Davide & Chaz bikes
have this system Canepa bike didn't and he qualified very well in super pole.
This a very elaborate system to satisfy the rules of stock location cans, bike really
Needs under seat exit.

Here some pics from MotoRapido Hopper bike repair to Akra pipe, there is a bypass so it looks like has a 2 stage dual length via a flapper valve.

Looking at it again it's just a balance tube, probably works on same principle as the Yoshi I4 headers with small balance cross overs between cyl' 1-2 & 3-4

WorldSBK < 2015 WorldSBK In the Garage ? Ducati's new exhaust

Just noticed - the "periscope" does a loop before exiting. So that's TWO loops (rear header and final exit pipe) under the seat.

I think Ducati wins the Rube Goldberg award for all-time most complex exhaust. But it appears to have worked with Davies currently 2nd in the championship, so big thumbs up to whoever thought of the thing!

Credit to M.C. Escher for that exhaust! Maybe not meant to make more power, just to make competitors dizzy trying to figure out what goes where, and where did that bit come out of.
