Ducati did a good job of making getting their riders back on track a marketing opportunity. I wonder why they didn't give them V4Rs though.
 
  1. For motorcycles of the same capacity class as the rider is entered in, only standard production road-homologated motorcycles may be used. Any modifications to the machine must be approved by the Technical Director prior to its use.
    NB. Motorcycles of non-roadracing disciplines (eg. Motocross, Enduro, SuperMoto) and roadracing machines of a different capacity class, as approved by the Technical Director, may be used without restriction.

Is an 1103cc V4 in the same capacity class as a 998cc V4? That rule looks like they could technically use a full on Ducati Corse superbike as long as it was built on top of a S.
