shutting

Please help! My 2013 1199R has been shutting off while I'm riding. I have read several threads about this issue, but other than suggestions I haven't come across any solutions. If you know how this issue can be resolved please advise! Thank you.

Posting for a friend who is just now experiencing this problem with his 2014 899: "Check engine light comes on. .. bike just shuts off. I turn it off and restart and it runs fine for about 20 seconds then repeats. Ever heard this issue?"
