Please check all your bolts

Road for 2 hours today in northern NJ. 1 hour up and back. When i got to my destination i noticed something that pissed me off. My key guard was missing a bolt. There are 4 of them 2 up top which catch the threads and 2 that go into the air ducts that have threads. well one of the 2 big ones right by the key was gone. So of course i checked the rest of the bike. All 3 bolts to the heat shield screws were gone too. the only thing that kept the heat shield on was the o2 sensor.
Any bolts that i took off changed or touched myself were all loctited down with blue loctite and were fine. of course these other bolts did not have loctite.

Also my mirrors were getting loose and the bolts under the rear cowl were a little loose.

do yourself a favor and check these often. i took the toolbag out and tightened everything for the ride home.

Damn that sux... I usually check most of the fairing bolts... didn't think to check the exhaust shield. Will do so, thanks.

yep same issue with keyguard and rear mudguard...I will take 2 hours off one day and get fairings down and check everything underneath

its pathetic actually. i know its normal frosty but the key guard? fairing bolts stay pretty well but i had to tighten for the ride home the other key guard bolts the left mirror bolt. it wasnt one turn either i had to tighten everything. all the rear hugger bolts. more important i have to go to the stealership and get new bolts.

should have waited a year instead of being first and got an hp4 carbon

I have no problem with this post repeating over time. A: it helps anyone that is new to this forum and B: it reminds us veteran owners to recheck.
With that said, I discovered Friday while I was replacing my right clipon that some of the clipon and brake bolts loosened up.
I also had lost my exhaust shield bolt last fall. I had the dealer replace it since it the exhaust has to come off and I was being lazy. That came with some great wisdom though.:rolleyes: The dealer was very condescending, "you really need to check all your hardware often". Yes that's the best advice, because I'm sure they check the exhaust shield bolts everytime a 1199 comes in.:rolleyes: Douch Rockets!

After 2500 kms i lost my exhaust cover bolt.luckly i was near a dealer and got it sorted.
The dealer mac says its a common problem cause the bolt screws onto the exhaust!
Yeah imagine a brand new 1199R with screws missing!

+1 - I didn't even think about the bolts under the cowl since I am too scared to remove it for fear of causing the "ejecting cowl problem". I did this morning and, sure enough, all those bolts needed Loctite and retightening.
