Previous owner installed a new one but the bike was sitting with Uhaul for almost a month. Damn thing wouldn't start without charging and even after fully charged it won't hold the charge. Had to be kept on tender all the time otherwise it won't start. Finally it gave the ghost and stranded me yesterday when it stalled at a traffic light even after riding it for 35 miles of mostly freeway. Ordered a Lithium battery for it.

Why do they cheap out on such a premium and expensive machine? I can understand the tiny battery for the weight savings but why put something that inadequate?

Same goes with the engine heat. Why not put heatshield from factory as majority owners are going to ride these on street?

Stock battery works just fine. I've had mine sit for month and a half n fired right up. Had the oem battery for almost 5 years b4 buying a lithium battery. I don't even have 6k miles on it so it doesn't get ridden that much in 7 years of ownership. I wouldn't go as far as blaming ducati or the oem battery here. Also, having heatshields all over the bike from the factory wouldn't make a difference either. Adding aftermarket pieces doesn't make a difference either. Bike generates a lot of heat. That heat needs to escape and keep the bike as cool as possible. Trapping the heat with heatshields is only gonna cause problems. A solution is remote fan switch to come on sooner, change the subframe to carbon since the oem subframe heatsoaks like crazy which is why your inner thighs burn, aftermarket coolers. That's about it.

Bike won't run properly otherwise. Will see how the lithium battery runs

Battery voltage was dropping. Later it dropped to 11.8V

mines a 2015 1299S with original battery. S model came with the lightweight lithium and for some reason I thought it came with an upgraded charging system to deal with the battery

mine sits at 12.1 after sitting for a day after an hour long ride last night. Wonder if it’s getting to the end of its life.

Just plugged it into my lithium battery charger and it brought it up to 13.6.

It’s amusing to me that you think they skimped on the battery because they totally skimped out on the fuel gauge

Skimping on fuel gauge or putting absolutely inaccurate gauge is an Italian thing especially Ducati[emoji23]

Mine is a leqs acid. Didn't know S model came with lithium

You guys would laugh at my 5 Year Old Battery Voltage on the Dash. I have a new one sitting ready to go in.

Let’s see it, Hawk. Show us your DP carbon fiber fuse & battery cover

AntiGravity batteries are looking good

No lithium battery on the 1299S. Lead-acid as standard. Lighter wheels, Ohlins semi-active suspension, carbon front fender, led lights were the selling points for the ‘S’. Lithium battery came as standard on the ‘R’.
