Whoa. Awesome. So they're in fact pre-production 1299SL's. Very interesting indeed.
Another little factoid. The number on the triples do not correlate to the bike’s VIN or production order. They are just randomly applied so far as I can tell. When I was touring the factory in August I saw bike #2 half through it’s asssembly. I also know people that ordered their bikes way after mine and they received a lower number bike.

I also tried to order my Speciale with the number 304 to match my Superleggera. Ducati can’t or wouldn’t do it.

I did know that. It’s not uncommon either. I have some limited production cars and they’re the same way.

What is very surprising is that Ducati would not match your FE to your SL. That doesn’t seem so difficult, especially if you gave them enough notice. Interesting for sure because you think they would want to accommodate certain clients.

I agree, yet I have a colleague that is tight with Ducati Corse and didn't get his 1199SL with his racing number (with which he took a few national titles, a couple for Ducati as I recall). A call to Claudio last year secured him the number on the 1299SL.

Captain, I know a lot of Aston owners but I've never met anyone I would consider a real Aston guy. Can you share a little about what makes them special to you, especially when compared to other sports cars?
Im an Aston Man pure and simple started, when I was about 6 years old...I own a 2017 DB11 I own a Vantage N430 (my baby) I have personally restored a DB5 by hand over 20 years and it cost me my marriage my relationship with my baby girl (now some 38 Years old!) Its a love affair that I cant explain  I have flown with Marc Wolf on the set of Of James Bond movies (sony and Metro) I have got up close and personal with these cars and if I had the means of King I would own Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
I own a Mclaren 570 and have on order a 720...nice cars but no personality.

I drive a Range Rover sport as my every day car and a few weeks ago purchased a Shelby Ford Mustang V8 to add to my out of control passion and love affair I have for cars, not bragging just saying.... I also Ride (like a girl a 1299 Base Ducati) and she is a recovering leak adict:D:D

I wash my Aston myself and love it I hand polish them and I have never driven any of my Aston's in the rain, I drive the N430 Like I stole it !! and she begs for more
I love it that these cars dont beg or ask for attention with much of the public not even noticing them, Its not an R8 or a Porsche that says please look at me, I still have hair and I dont own a gold chain, when this changes I will drive a Ferrari...:);)

I had a very brief affair with an Aventador but its public precence and costant asking how fast and how much put me off.

Does this qualify me as an Aston guy?.......
I dont know. Look me up on 6speed on line Im a well respect contributor on the Aston forum;)

Whoa whoa whoa there, Captain. Be careful there. I don't have a gold chain but the rest of it hits pretty close to home. :)

Love the Aston story. Makes a lot of sense to me and something that I identify with, although with another brand and not necessarily Aston. Still, it helps me understand a lot.

I've owned some pretty epic sports cars: 1973 Porsche Carrera RS 2.7, 1979 BMW M1, 1982 Lamborghini Countach, etc. etc. and ended up selling them all and only holding on to several special cars from another Italian manufacturer. I've never owned an Aston and to be honest, I've never understood them. It's not that I think that they're bad cars - far from it, in fact. It's just that I've never been able to understand why I would choose to give up a spot in the garage to an Aston over something else more, well, red blooded. This explains a lot so I appreciate that.
