So I was doing some reading on the differences between the 1199 and 1299 engine and it looks like the 1199 and 1299 cylinders are essentially the same, same valve sizes, same valve lift. Only thing I could find is there are minor contour changes to the combustion chamber to take advantage of the modified squish area. It looks like they should be interchangeable. Anyone know if this is true? Part numbers have a different letter designation.

On the face of it no.

The 1199 has a bore of 112mm and the 1299 116mm. The 1199 and 1299 cylinder heads will match the bore respectively and, as you mentioned, the squish areas engineered to suit.

I'm certain they are not interchangeable based on that fact, even if you could physically fit one on either.

Originally that was my thought as well but if you look at the chamber design it doesn’t allow for the piston crown to protrude past the deck of the cylinder. I would suspect that the 1299 runs a bit tighter squish so the cylinder head may have been machined a bit more which would mean the 1199 head should have a slightly larger piston to cylinder head gap on the 1299. It still seems like it would work, although how much effect on performance is anunknown.
