1199/1299SL owners. Hangar queen or riding machine?

I sort of regret having to many bikes,(you can never have to many bikes), but mass depreciation , servicing on a time basis ?, and sometimes a dilema as to which bike to ride. And be a master of none !

Riding machine! I recently received my 1299 Superleggera, my first ride was to calibrate the slicks followed by a few sessions at COTA. I don't think I could live with myself if I didn't ride and or take it to the track.

Congratulations and nice attitude.

i dont have the luxury of having an sl or a desmo however, a guy at my track had a bayliss and a mv agusta one of the expensive ones. its a great story he won the bayliss at a raffle for 100 bucks. actually hung up on the guy when he told him he won.

i asked him you have the mv that you ride on the track why do you track the bayliss. he said
to not ride this bike on the track is not only hurting yourself by not having the joy of riding it how it should be but also you are hurting the bike.

on another note i will be bringing my ducati to the track as well. i was always afraid to but now i will. the reason is twistedracer and his crash. he has an aniversary and an r and just crashed the r. well i have an 1199s and an hp4. if i crash the 1199 ill just get a new ducati i also have the track bike 600. my poor hp4 only has 1400 miles on it :(

only thing better than a boat is a friend with a boat. 2 best days when you buy it and when you sell it.

b= break
o= out
a =another
t =thousand.

I know this is about riding/driving these things or not but I'm surprised nobody commented on sherpa23's F40.damn thats nice car btw & a true classic

no joke i remember when they came out everybody was like f40 damn and he drives the thing great work

Like many of you, I bought my SL to ride it, not to let it rot away in a garage. Never been a fan of the "buy it to look at it" mentality. That's also why I bought my GT3 RS with a few miles on it so I'd have no reason not to drive it. Just about 30k miles on that one now.

Which date did you choose? CASTRO and I will be there on the 3rd of Aug for the track day and at the Ducati factory on the 2nd.

I"ll be the track part on July 26. All the bike will be reverse shift which I haven't ridden in over 10 years :eek:

Thank you. They're all very different from each other. When I had the 1199R and the RF, I used to say one was like riding an 800lb silverback that wanted to rip your arms off and beat you with them, and the other was like a scalpel. I'll let you guess which is which :D. The SL takes it to the next level of rawness. It feels like a true race bike in the way that a P1 GTR feels like a true race car. Vibration, lightness, stiffness, all on the next level.

The V4 is probably the perfect motorcycle if you want a bike that does everything better than you can. It's predictable, fast, smooth, and easier to ride fast than anything else I've ridden.

The R1 I bought to convert to a track/race bike, but the bike impressed me right out of the box. My first bike was an R6 which was converted to a race bike within 6 months, and I had the pleasure of owning one of Jason DiSalvo's 2006 R1 LE Superstock bikes after the AMA season, so Yamahas are very familiar feeling to me. The new bike is no exception. The motor is an absolute gem, the chassis is what I'm used to, and the ergos fit me better than the V4. It lacks the Italian character we've all become accustomed to, but of the Japanese bikes I've ridden, it's by far my favorite.

So in short, they're all very different in terms of character and riding pleasure. I just feel lucky that I get to experience them all and appreciate them for what each manufacturer has accomplished with that particular bike.

And with that, I think it's a good time to take the SL up the crest...

Thanks for sharing. For others wanting to know competitive lap times at CoTA....when I was there for the MotoGP weekend back in June of 2017 these were the benchmark times.....

2:12.6 for Gerloff in MotoAmerica SuperSport Qualifying
2:08.1 for Hayden in MotoAmerica SuperBike Qualifying
2:02.7 for Marquez in MotoGP Q2
