I have play in the front tie rod end (rose joint) of my rear shock (Showa; 1199 ABS Base).

Ducati do not supply a replacement part for this, and their solution is to replace the entire shock at over £1000. Madness for a removable part!

Does anybody know the correct size of rod end to replace this part?

Many thanks,

Al.

Please check the spare parts catalogue (e.g. Ducati Genuine Parts) and mark the part you have a problem with in the picture.
It makes life much easier for us to help you!

The picture shows the only replaceable part as Part 4. I need the rod end that pin 1 goes through.

I guess the picture you posted does not directly represent what you mean: are you're talking about the joint bearing that is pressed into the shock absorber's front?!?

It's a replaceable part, you'll get it from an Oehlins reseller or e.g. SKF, or any other bearings company.
But I am really suprised if that is the problem! It's one of the strongest part in the assembly. I would suggest that you take out the shock absorber and show it to a suspension guy! Costs will be around USD 50.- if it's really a faulty bearing.

used shock off ebay.

heck, i sell you mine for $200

PM if interested

Its the centre of this attached image, or of course the whole rod end.

Thanks Phl, but I'm in the UK, so postage won't be great! I may have to resort to that in the end! an eBay job may not guarantee the bearing quality.

I'm going to visit a Motorsport bearing specialist tomorrow. I'm very surprised to find play in it too. 12k on the clocks. As I said, its not replaceable by Ducati. :-(

Usually spherical bearings like that are a non replaceable item and the whole rod end needs replacing. It seem stupid can't get a new rod end and a whole shock is needed instead. I suspect The problem with that parts catalogue is that as its bike one, the shock is replaceable unit. But get shock parts catalogue and I bet the the rod end is in there!

I realise it's a fair distance but Might be worth giving someone like MCT suspension in Bury St Edmunds a call. They have a good rep, a friend has used them should be able to help out I'm sure. If not try Ducati Coventry as I think it's home to the guru that is John Hackett.

The specialist motorsport supplier couldn't help me, so I dropped in on a local bearing supplier, who said to come back on Monday, and were certain they could do something for me! Watch this space!

I've managed to source and replace with the following:

Splat Shop - Spherical Bearing 12x22x12 - GasGas Pro & Beta Shock Bearing
Splat Shop - 16x22x3 - R26 VC NBR - Rubber Covered Springless Shaft Seal

The above bearing and seals are pretty much identical to the factory fitted ones.

The top hats came out relatively easily using two screw drivers and the bearing was knocked out with a hammer and socket (no retaining circlip), then pressed back in with a socket and vice.

And of course, it's not a showa, it's a Sachs!
