So I've searched and it seems that most who havs a S that have gone to BST wheels are happy with their choice. Who wouldnt be, but now i have come to the point where I'm looking at upgrading my wheels. I would love a set of BSTs the roads here arent great and I would probably cry if I hit a railroad track and it cracked a wheel, I've looked at forged magnesium but at that point for price your better off goin with BST. So now I've come across a great deal on some forged aluminum Marchesini wheels(not S wheels) I've looked and on paper it looks as if the base wheels and the S wheels arent that much of a weight difference, till you start to look at unsprung mass that a little bit goes a long way. So has anyone out there swapped out their base wheels for lighter aluminum wheels? and if so what was your thoughts....
Sorry its a little long, and for reference I am a occasional track rider that can ride near or at the front in an intermediate group.

Since you're not racing, what's most important to you when looking at an upgrade? In order of importance? Weight, looks, ride quality, value/cost?

probably weight, value, ride, then looks. I'd like to get on the track more but my work doesnt really work with me on that. I do ride hard, yes most times on the street, but still. I know I probably dont need them but I cant imagine it would hurt.

Gunny Fitz can get them cheap PM him . I think the Mamba style BST wheels are really dated now and don't suit the Panigale . IMO the Oz wheela are the go .
Get a set of Forged alloy wheels for the street .

I largely agree with Wilkson in that for street riding and occasional track days, a Marchesini forged magnesium seems like the best choice for you but with regards to value, then forged alu is a good option. I thought I've seen the Marchesini forged alu the <$2K ballbark.

btw, you may want to PM b1six for feedback about his OZ Piega alu wheelset. I remember having a conversation with him about them and I know he did his research before pulling the trigger on them.

Paging b1six....

I appreciate the input, ya I found a set of alumium marchenisi for around $1850 so I was leaning toward that option. Magnesium would be sweet but if I go that deep whats a little more for some BST, honestly I was thinking forged aluminum would be best bang for buck over the stock wheels.

Just looked up the aluminum OZ wheel weight, with bearings and spacers installed the weights are close
Marchesini Front: 7.99lb Rear: 10.88lb
OZ Front: 7.59lb Rear: 10.58

kevin just some food for thought. here are the numbers
base wheels weigh 3.7 kg and 4.5 kg total 8.2 kg
s wheels 2.7kg and 3.4 kg total 6.1kg
bst wheels 2.7 kg and 2.79 total 5.49kg

as you can see the S wheels are just as light as the BST wheels. IMO the bst are dated. i dont really like them but thats just me. s wheels or bst ill stay with the s 3. grand to save .5 kg no thanks. i go for looks first here would be my 2 choices the first is oz forged mag 3595 the second is marchasi 3575 the bet are 3838. so if you were going to spend on bst carbon why not get magnesium its just as good.
The weights are all close. motowheels has all of them the prices are their prices im sure a few guys can show you better deals
hope this helped .

there is a BIG difference in base to S rims (2kg), i dont know where you got your info but 2kg is alot
infact sprung weight is 7x so you are infact saving 14kg+

from your point get anything that you really think is great
ether value or looks
cause it be a big improvement from the OEM base

if you were on S i would just stay with them as they are sooo good from wat i can tell in weight. its 1kg lighter then the 1198sp rims

be aware that carbon also may not be allowed on track for safety reasons depending where you are in the world.
also magnesium can be scary long term if you live near the sea as it corrodes BAD!
i believe WSBK has gone from magnesium to alloy but dont quote me on that.
its on Checa's bike OZ forged alloy

hope i answer all your questions

thanks everyone so far for the input, i guess what it really boils down to is this, I'm looking to stick with aluminum on that note would it be better off going with a Marchenisi, OZ or tryin to get a set of S wheels
