Hey everyone,

I noticed a few people mentioned that they sometimes see flames out of the exhaust from the 1199. I was wondering is this due to higher octane fuel, aggressive riding, or aftermarket exhaust? Any ideas?

Thanks,

Eddie

It's from Ducati designing the bike to vigorously suck gasoline from the tank and turn it into tire-shredding power, rather than designing it to reach a perfect stoichiometric ratio at all times.

Thanks Luke, i understand that raw gasoline vapor ends up in the exhaust, where it is ignited from the heat. Mostly from "overshoot" when you rapidly let off the gas. I also know that the engine momentarily "floods" which causes a misfire, which shoves gas vapor from the misfire into the exhaust where it overwhelms the catalytic converter, gets into the tailpipe where it burns. Evenmore I also know that if you see more yellowish flames its from a lack of proper ratio of air to fuel. If there was enough O2, the flame would be pale blue.

My question was trying to ask when it happens most?

Do you still have your AIS on? It happens most during a QS with a rapidly opening throttle in lower RPMs and/or cold temps. I love it when it sounds like a gun shot :).
