Hey gent's, I'm not on the forum as much as I used to be. Quick question, my rear brake hasn't worked in quite some time.

I just flushed/bled the lines and replaced the rear pad (to match the new HH pads up front) and I STILL can't get the damn thing to work.

My 1199S is a 2012 NON ABS...

Any thoughts? Is this a common/known issue?

Thanks in advance!

he beat me to it. if you don't flip the caliper upside down there will be a permeant air bubble that you will never ever be able to get out. you have to take the caliper off turn it upside down. be careful what you place there to keep the pads separated. anti hero did a how to on this. bleed brakes . put caliper back the way it was should work

Yup. Pull the rear off and set it on top of the rear wheel. You'll never get that last bit of air out otherwise.

This is the procedure from the service manual BTW. ;)

I wouldn't say the rear brake is useless...but of course the only time I've used it is to hold the bike at a steep hill when starting off.

that's odd. the rear brake on my 1299 is the first truly powerful rear brake I've ever had on a Ducati. wish my Multistrada's rear brake had as much power and bite; I use the rear a lot more on that bike.

I was told to tie a weight to the rear brake by my service manager if the bike is not going to be used for awhile. Of course, remember to take the weight off before your next ride. I have not had to bleed the rear for quite some time now after following his advice.

I'd say it's time to bleed the brake on your Multi.

that I've done, quite frequently. Inverted the caliper and everything. It works, just not as well as my 1299's. A lot of Multi owners complain that it doesn't work at all.

I use speedbleeders, as a tangent. what a freaking beautiful invention those things are.

that's the same trick as tying down the front brake lever. No one seems to have a good explanation as to why having the hydraulic circuit under pressure overnight seems to get rid of air and firms up the feel, but it works.
