Last time I had my 1199 front sprocket off--didn't I see something similar? Doesn't Ducati provide a standard OEM case-protective guard against chain breakage? Is this piece under the OE plastic front sprocket cover? Or does it mount outside of that plastic cover?

Hi Greg, not sure, hope this pic of me holding it against a pic of the factory assembly image makes is make sense:

Thanks Phill--currently as my 1199 sits, (any assembled 1199) there is the plastic front sprocket cover in place, hiding the sprocket and I think a similar metal guard--to protect the case in the event of chain breakage. So--I'm trying to determine, without taking the parts off--if I already have that part--or a similar OE part--in place.

In your photo, the part is visible with no sprocket cover.

I'll just consult a parts diagram. I would be a buyer if this protective part is not included OEM but I'm pretty sure it is!

Gregg,
this guy replaces the metal clip piece that is integrated into the plastic gaurd cover. you remove the stock piece and install this in its place. This Ti part is likely stronger and better protection...but when's the last time a chain gave way for you? or you heard of one that let go that wasnt driven by some ....... who never even looks at their chain?

yeah, i'd definitely consider this a race use item, 525 chain, heavy abuse, likely no or carbon sprocket cover...

oh and i just found the marking on it. it was made by MVS performance, but it appears the company is no longer...

Thanks Phil--so- it cannot be used in conjunction with the factory plastic sprocket cover in place?

can't confirm, since i've never mounted it and i don't have the 1199 any longer to check on a bike.
but it will require 2 bolts, probably the same ones used by the sprocket cover. the cover would be mounted over it, but here's a good reason to get you a nice carbon cover :D

sorry about the uncertainty.
