I have recently purchased the first iteration of the 1199R Panigale 2013 model and have come to the conclusion there must have been an engineering flaw⁸ with the midpipe design from Termignoni and I'm wondering if anyone can confirm this? I have tried everything to stop the midpipe from melting the lower R/H fairing without success. It's not caused by the location of the spring It appears the midpipe is not shaped correctly, as I have seen several photos on the internet which shows the Termignoni midpipe sitting in 2 different positions (photos attached). I have repostioned and twisted the midpipe as far as it will go clockwise to try & replicate how it should sit compared to a 2014 model wthout success. The first & third photo's show how it should sit horizontally in the fairing slot & the second photo is how mine sits 🤷‍♀️ Screenshot_20220615-171840_Photos.jpgIMG-20220321-WA0010.jpgScreenshot_20220618-150635_YouTube.jpg

I have ‘13R as well with Termi D170 exhaust and my right track fairing is getting a little crispy. My bike is track bike so I am not concerned about this… I think it is related to design / angle of cutout where pipe route is close to the fairing. You can maybe try to put some spacers to push fairing couple millimeters away from exhaust and install some heat deflecting tape and / or put some exhaust wrap on that location (may look ugly)… If it was my street bike I would try first option first.

Thanks but because it's my street bike I don't want to wrap the pipe. I have managed to twist it as far as possible which has given it some clearance from section of fairing that bulges out near the spring (still doesn't sit straight in the fairing slot) but now it's touching the top section and melting that 🙄.
I was trying to find out if the first gen Termi full race exhaust had a design flaw, which it appears to have but I haven't seen this discussed on any forums. I was thinking of buying another set of headers as I've noticed the midpipe has a design change (welds) where my version hasn't (pic attached). I have carbon fiber lower fairings which I'm not prepared to attach until I've sorted the midpipe issue as the new fairings also touch the midpipe. I'm also contemplating transferring my Akrapovic full titanium system off my 959, as it's compatible with the 1199 & 1299 and sits perfectly on my 959.

If you look at the Full Termi install instructions from Ducati, they say you must add heat insulation at that part of the fairing so it's a known issue.

I have the same issue with the Akra as well. I always had that burning smell whenever the bike started and couldn't figure out where it was from. Turns out the lower right fairing was melting away. I added insulation and that helped a lot. (Still need to replace the fairing some day..)

See the manual says to add heat insulation here

Yes, I have heat reflective tape covering the entire inside of that lower R/H fairing. But that still doesn't answer my question as to why my version of midpipe touches the fairing & does not sit straight in the fairing slot as per other versions I have seen that do sit perfectly at the correct angle to the fairing slot ( as per my original pictures). After getting the fairing melting damage fixed and the lower fairings repainted it's now touching in this area and melting. I'm going to install the full Akra system off my 959 and if that fits perfectly as it does on my 959 (plenty on clearance from fairing, no melting & sits perfectly straight inside the fairing slot) then I'll know its an engineered design f@%k up by Termignoni. The bottom pic in the full 70mm Akra on my 959.
Cheers for your answers.

I have an 1199S tricolore and I've been under the impression that the pipe diameter is the issue. Mine comes with a full exhaust which comes extremely close to the fairing and has essentially burned the fairing paint. Does the 959 have same diameter pipes? I would guess it's smaller. I'd also say the stock 1199 pipes are smaller diameter. Fairings likely designed around the smaller pipes.

As far as I'm aware both the Termignoni titanium race exhaust (which are actually S/S headers & was the full Termignoni system supplied with the 2013/2014 1199R) and the Akrapovic full titanium evolution system (which is actually titanium) are both 70mm and will all fit the 1199, 959 & 1299 exculding the different mounting bracket for the cans on the 1199. The OEM exhaust on the 959 was a smaller diameter. I repeat I have had no fitting issues or melting fairing issues with the full 70mm Akra on the 959.

I think we are talking about different parts of the midpipe. You are talking about towards the front as indicated by the arrow in the picture. A few of the replies are talking about towards the back area below the rear brake.

I can't answer to your issue.

That entire piece of pipe is called the midpipe. My fairing melted in both places, at the rear section where the rearsets are and now at the front area since trying to repostion the pipe by rotating it clockwise which has created some space near the rearsets. Original melted damage poto near the rearsets.

Something does not sound right. Mine melted the fairing, and it was replaced undser warranty a year after purchase.

I installed mine myself. It takes some twisting of the midpipe to get it in the right position.

Also when tightening fairing screws, I pull the fairing out as far as it can, before tightening. I also added reflective heat tape.

Fast forward 9 years later, it still looks good. My spacing doesnt look jacked like yours. Something does not seem seated or twisted right.
