Planning to transport my 1199S 200 miles each way in box trailer, to nearest Ohlins specialist to have rear spring changed and suspension set up.

I have moved many bikes over the years, mostly i have positioned a loop round bottom champ and pulled front suspension down, with a couple of ratchet straps on rear sets to stop back of bike moving around.

Looking at 1199 there is not a lot of clearance at front end to do this, even with cover plate removed in horn area.

Any thoughts on best points to tie down.

Thanks for any info.

since I got the pitbull trailer restraint which anchors off the rear wheel and is one of the best ways to tie down a bike I haven't used it.

BUT the canyon dancer works well you just have to very careful and don't compress the forks more than halfway. I'd recommend the new version canyon dancer which has plastic cups to keep from distorting the grips. the bar harness II Canyon Dancer Inc. tying down by the bars is not the greatest way to do it, but tough to do it any other way short of having a front wheel chock.

Avoid the original version of the Canyon Dancer like the plague. I have both, and the second version is SO much better to work with.

I personally haven't used the pitbull trailer restraint but have seen it and think its ..... I'll be picking one up if I need to transport. I've used the canyon dancer in the past and works well. Only thing I had to do was put a rag on each side of the fairing where the strap would touch.

What the others said times 10.

The Pitbull restraint is the way to go.

I transport my bikes a fair amount, and it's piece of mind compared to regular tie downs.

+1 for canyon dancers. I like the pro taper tie downs, there easy to use and a little thicker then the normal tie downs. If you're using ratchet straps on canyon dancers, be very careful about over tightening them. I've seen a thread out there where a guy broke his clip on bar from over tightening with ratchet straps (not a ducati but another type of sportbike).

Thanks Guys for the information, unfortunately Pitbull products are not for sale in the UK.

Would prefer not to pull down on throttle tube, just in case it causes damage.

The search continues.

I feel your pain. I'd be willing to reship to you if you wanted. Have no idea how much shipping would be though.

Cobra700,

Thanks for the offer, i bought an Ohlins steering damper kit for my Streetfighter from Moto Wheels, cost of shipping was ok, but import duty into the UK was about $150. I have found a UK dealer for Canyon Dancer 2, plan to fabricate front chock frame at work.

Cheers Scotrmz

I use Pitbull as well . We don't have them here either but ordered mine direct I'm sure it's just as easy to the UK.

That Pitbull restraint looks nice, but it also looks like you have to bolt it down. If you only haul your bike on occasion or if you're looking to haul it in the back of a pick-up truck this would be a little bit of a problem. I use a Baxley sport chock and a canyon dancer II and it works very well. I also secure the back of the bike. There's different ways to secure the back of the bike. I like (but have never used) the Sato racing hooks. I think this looks like a good way to secure the back of the bike.

Thanks Guys for advice,

I had Panigale in box trailer for the first time today, setup i used was:-

Canyon Dancer 2
Ace Bikes Steady Stand
Ace Bikes Tyrefix
Acebikes

Great setup, the bike was very stable in trailer and it only takes minutes to fix down. Tyrefix is an excellent piece of kit, clamping tyre not suspension.

Delivered bike to detailers for a machine polish and paint sealant application , looks better than new.

Cheers from a not so sunny Central Scotland -5C this morning, time for bike hibernation.

I'm using the Baxley sport chalk with the canyon dancer as well. The straps only need to be tight enough to stop the bike from leaning when you corner. The rear of the bike only needs secured enough to stop it from lifting the rear wheel. Even if it does it won't tip over.....I tie it down now. ;)

I can't overemphasize the superior quality of the Cycle Cynch II vise the Canyon Dancer. I haul a half dozen friends around many times a year to the track/mountains and slowly everyone is handing in their Dancer for the Cynch. It requires much less tension on the suspension due to design of the strap system. Our bikes in my group always wiggle around or cause havoc on the grips or bar ends using the Dancer. Not the case with the Cynch.
When loaded in the truck bed, I only use the Cynch and have no need for rear tie downs. (trailer is a different case)

There is no way I'm gonna argue the case against the rear Pitbull mount though. Hands down the best system possible. But if you want to pinch some pennies, the Cynch is better than other strap systems.

The only downside...Cycle Cynch is pricier and not available at every cycle store. Still baffles me why this is?

The rear Sato Hook is great for the Panigale. I have one on mine and makes a great anchor point...

Pitbull is the best or Canyon Dancer II with some soft rags to put around the grips before...
