Rear moving around at hard braking

Ducati Forum

Well you should set engine braking to minimum if you don’t like the rear moving around in heavy braking zones.

The rear moving around is normal to me, it’s my indicator that I’m braking hard enough.

Make sure to get your body shifted to the side of the bike that you’re turning into before you brake. Having your body already situated to the side makes the rear end movement feel a lot less dramatic.

Nothing worse than a dramatic rear and movement

Are we talking same language here?, I mean I want to have the highest possible engine braking effect, not restricted via the bikes system. This make the braking better unless it is rain, then I would consider reducing it. Luckily on the few outings so far I have never had rain;)

Feedback from last weekend, and the braking and general feeling of the bike is now very good;)
Cranked up front fork, brake support, steering damper and acceleration parameters in the dynamic mode. Lowest EBC (1).
Bike is now very fast and acts perfect in all sections! Just lacking some driver skills, but I have not found that menu just yet...

EBC 1 is the highest level of engine brake.
EBC3 is no (lower) engine brake.

Very confusing.

Easier to throttle control the bike and manage corner entry and corner roll speeds with the EBC on its lowest settings

Hmm, not sure I agree with that Steven!

There are differences between the settings, and each setting has pros and cons. And, it's fairly easy to adjust to each setting and reap the benefit. I have it on setting 3 for wet, 2 for dry. It's very impressive.

Although, when you say 'lowest', d'you mean lowest numerical value on the menu, or least intrusive?

Having it on setting one, and using it as an aid for braking, is brilliant. But, it's not a simple system, and lightly rolling at high revs, doesn't suddenly induce massive engine brake.

I meant least intrusive, also I think that’s better for more beginner track riders learning corner entry speed and a million other things, lately there have been a few instances where I was wishing I had a single toggle button to increase Engine Breaking for specific corners on a track. But I think that comes with more experience.

Two of the tracks I go to have a banked bowl corner with high entry speeds and roll speeds that would benefit from more engine breaking, but through the S’s less engine breaking on the same track…an easy one button toggle could be useful in those situations

Agreed. Noticed more stability on braking and corner entry with EBC 2 than 3. I also think that the EBC is “dynamic” meaning it’s less intrusive the higher the revs and as rpm’s drop engine compression increases.

I think the way to think about Ducati electronics is the lower the number = lower electronic intervention. With EBC, no intervention is just the engine doing its thing. With higher levels of EBC, the electronics keep the valves open longer lessening engine braking.

Spend a bit more money Steven, and you get EBC controlled by GPS (satellite, not gear sensor) 🤩

Yes, that's what I meant by 'impressive'. 'Dynamic' would open it up, it definitely seems progressive, or intelligent. Worth playing around with.

Good to hear its improved, a mate who is a far better rider than me has ebc on 1 and uses it to turn. In other words, he tips it in with the back moving and then leans on DSC to make black lines as he points and shoots.

What im saying is that the electronics are pretty good, movement feels a bit weird but its ok, the hard part is trusting them.

Holy crap, as they say, rtfm😂
I had no idea that you could adjust the suspension on the S models in the settings!!
Just noticed that the brakesupport is at 3 and front fork is at 4. I think about getting both to 5. Or am I the only one using dynamic and not fixed?, as you can tell I am not a wizard at this game…

You paid all that much more for the bike and didn't know you were getting this? AHahhaa.
BTW, you can adjust the suspension settings in FIXED mode as well. I was riding Dynamic on the track a while but realized FIXED was much more easy to learn the track with as it's always the same. Dynamic I use on the road for the unpredictable situations.
So you have 4 modalities with 2 variations for each to makes a set up in right? STREET, SPORT, RACE-A, & RACE-B + DYNAMIC or FIXED in each!
It's very cool to set one up from the Öhlins guy for eg. and leave it as a go-to. Then use the others for experimenting. STREET mode I use for City, Rain or passengers, I just make it soft. Then the others for Sport riding and Track.
