1199SL Exhaust System question?

Hi Fellows,

I am currently in the market for a 1199 SL. Speaking with a dealer, I am trying to understand how the original 1199 SL exhaust system is supposed to look like. As far as I understand, it should be a full AKRA TI system with two sets of mufflers (one racing and one road version). As per my understanding, the system should be road legal and therefore has the catalytic converter and exhaust valve attached. In order to convert the original 1199SL exhaust system to a full racing system, everything else than the racing mufflers would need replacement with an AKRA racing system. Please do let me know if my understanding is correct?

Thank you

They shipped with exhaust valve and cats in the cans. I saw one that came with a big box that had a full Ti system in it but it was underbelly as well. But I also saw other SL’s on the floor at the same dealer with the under tail full system installed. Dunno if those under tail came in the box of parts or if it got tacked on to the already out of my range price tag

I just installed the included race mufflers on mine a couple days ago. The “road” muffler is one piece, even though it looks like two. It says “Titanium” on it along with a small “Akrapovic”. The “race” muffler is two pieces and also gets rid of the exhaust valve and servo motor. The race mufflers have a larger “Akrapovic” on them, and have a laser etched disclaimer about not being road legal.

Ad Don mentioned, I believe the road mufflers have cats in them. The rest of the exhaust definitely doesn’t have any cats, so when you switch to the race muffler it would not have any.

1199 SL never had any under seat systems. If one was fitted it was after market. Never seen an 1199SL with an under seat system,
