1199SL vs. 1299SL

Hello All,
I am currently considering picking up either a second-hand 1199SL or a second-hand 1299SL. Both similar mileage and good condition. Obviously the 1299SL comes out as the more expensive choice and is of course also a newer bike (2017 vs. 2014) with the more updated electronics package, QS upshift, carbon wheels etc. The 1199SL comes across as the more classic choice and (IMO) wins on looks.

I am looking to see if anyone on the forum have any experience riding/working on/owning both bikes as I am very curious to learn more about riding characteristics and what the expect choosing either. Should I imagine that it is simply a 1199R vs. a 1299R respectively, just lighter and faster or are there anything else with either bike which would make it your preferred choice?

This far I have mainly been riding 1199s and 1299R for reference.

Looking forward to any guidance, advise or thoughts from fellow members.

Thank you

1299SL is my dream bike, I have a FE, which is amazing.
Yes a V4R would be nice!
For the price of a used 1299SL you can have a V4R and a V4 base.

I think you should get the 1199 SL and then post novels about how "special" it is. Never mind, we already have someone for that.

Thank you for feedback guys. I can see there is a preference for the V4R rather than a Twin. However, would still be interested in hearing from anyone who have actually tried both bikes.

check milage on either bike (1199SL or 1299SL)ideally you would want an under 500 mile bike, and do not let that be the reason you pay more, even though that would be the, considered normal, mindset ....both are 2 ring piston motors, prone to oil bypass issues - i've had more than anyones fair share of exposure to that conundrum

Thanks for the advise. Duly noted on the mileage.
