1299 acceleration

Base stats published will probably be a sub 3.0 sec 0-60 and sub 10 sec for 1/4 mile. At the end of the day those numbers still matter to some folks. I see and hear it all the time at Cars N' Coffee meets (not nessecarily the owners themselves). It also huge for general marketing.

Funny story...A "friend" of mine was trying to convince me this newly purchased Ariel Atom is faster than any bike produced. I simply told him that he is misinformed since I'm only down 40hp on him and down over 900 pounds.

if he got the base model arial atom ( you say you are only 40 hp difference) then no, his car is not 'faster' BUT it comes down to faster in what, 0-60? well you have to launch the bike, he has a much easier time launching that car. The Ariel atom 500 does a 0-60 in 2.3 seconds... that is fast, real fast. And around a track, you better be on your toes to beat the AR 500 also....

It was the Atom 2 (I believe) and only listed 240hp. He is a nice guy, but one who wants to compare stats. I simply referenced the Porsche 918, P1, and Superleggera video; which showed who was king until 190 mph.

I've had the opportunity to ride in an Atom 3 and boy is that thing awesome. For sure a visceral experience.

I own an 899 and I think alot of the guys here think bigger engines always equal quicker times, not always the case my mate has an 1199 and I rip him to shreds on my 899 everytime !
So far only bike to beat me in a drag from the lights is a 1000cc gixxer and it was neck and neck. On the other hand I have beaten another 1000cc gixxer on my 899 panigale.
Sorry guys bigger is not always better.

Yes coz two people who are useless drag racing bikes off traffic lights is a surefire way to tell what's 'better'.

With the two skilled pilots, bigger will always be better.

And about the 0-60 0-100 times it is pointless to try to check this as those bikes aren't made for drag, it's like trying to get the time of a basketball player on a 100m race.

Yeh drag racing from standstill is more about rider skill than the actual bike.
If you want a more fair comparison, do a rolling start, then you'll see bigger bikes will always come out on top, assuming the person on the bigger bike isn't afraid to pin the throttle, and isn't ridiculously overweight lol

To say you are correct is an understatement. Launching a 195 hp bike that weighs just over 400lbs is literally impossible using more than about 3/4 throttle (give or take). You simple cannot keep the front end down, so you essentially cannot use any more of the bigger bikes power than the smaller bike has until you are past 60mph.

I'm pretty sure I can get to 100 quicker on my BMW S1000R than my 1199 Panigale simply because the S1000 has wheelie control and I'm not afraid to pin the throttle. But I'm also quite sure that from an 80mph roll on my 1199 is faster by a comfortable margin.
