What gives with the brake line crimps on this 1299?
I've only had the bike 18 months and they are corroded badly, any tips on fixing this?

my guess:

you had your tires changed and the installer saw a rubber spacer (that is used to cushion the brake line somewhere upstream on the brake line) and didn't know where it went so he pushed it down on top of the crimp where the brake line meets the caliper.

if I'm right that rubber spacer needs to be moved back to where it is supposed to go Its purpose is to stop the brake line from rubbing metal and getting a hole in it

this is what it should look like^
other than the rubber grommet guess I'd say stay away from the pressure washer they have very corrosive cleaners.

Id wipe the fittings down with honda cleaner or spray some CRC 3-36 corrosion inhibitor (or similar product) on a rag and carefully wipe a small film onto fittings. be sure not to allow it on your brake rotors.

Here are how mine look after 15 months in dry CA weather...

We had salt put on the roads last winter, but I'm inland from the coast.
I guess I need to keep on top of these susceptible parts like these :D

Salt most definitely. May want to check your bearings and give the fitting a few coats of silver paint after hitting it with some sandpaper.

Get Hel performance braided brake lines, they use stainless steel components and you get live time warranty.

Thanks,

Are there any for the 1299S? A lot of websites do not list the 1299S.

Hi
Yes, Hel Performance made them and i can get you a kit if needed (with free brembo brake fluid).
It's a 5 lines kit and retail at £149.99
Drop me a PM if still interested.

Also might do a group buy with 10% discount if more then 5 people will be interested.

Thomas

Thanks for the offer,
I'll pass just now, as I managed to get some emery paper on them and cleaned them up,
I have spent enough just now as it is, with a TL quickshifter going on next week :)
