Hi, guys. I'm thinking of replacing the plastic exhaust cover with a carbon one. I wondered if anyone one has experience how these last with the heat generated. They all look pretty much the same, too, without a different look or feature that stands out. I did see a used one for sale a year ago that looked pretty fooked, will they all get screwed with that heat? Thanks, Dave

Although I havent got a carbon fibre heat shield on my 1299, come to think of it apart from the Akrapovic slip ons with their bits of carbon fibre there arent any CF parts on my bike. Anyway, in my experience on previous bikes ive found that bare carbon fibre (not gloss) degrades after a while, especially in areas where a lot of heat is present, it tends to go a yellow colour and the weave starts to degrade. On the other hand a good quality carbon fibre part such as those that Akrapovic make (gloss) will not degrade half as quickly

I have the Termi large cover on mine that's been there since new (7 years ago). Hasn't yellowed or cracked. It is important to get quality carbon to reduce discolouration and delamination.

the answer is in how its made and with what materials. Should be prepreg from a reputable supplier with a high heat rating. Usually it needs a coat of UV inhibitor to stop it yellowing. Unlikely to be wet layup unless an ali-express special, generally avoid the no names and youll be fine.
