as is often the case, I turn a 30min job into a 3 hour one :p My kit came without instructions, so I was left to puzzle it out.

I got part#96580081B, which includes a gear control lever that holds the shift rod at a different angle; no rubbing. And of course the overpriced cable.

So this is how I did it:
- remove lower left fairing
- remove clutch slave cylinder
- unclip all those zip ties holding various lines together
- disconnect cable leading to shift rod
- unscrew shift rod from gear control lever
- unscrew and remove gear control lever

At this point, one may reattach the slave cylinder.

- remove shift lever (this can be done without removing the rearset, and pull out the shift lever/shift rod assembly.
- flip the shift rod over and reattach. The black plastic box on the shift lever should now be facing downwards.
- install new gear control lever, with the FLAT SIDE facing outwards.
- reattach shift rod and lefthand foot shift lever
- reattach shift rod to the gear control lever.
- plug in new fancy-pants wire between the shift lever wire and the bike's stock location.
- test the shiftlever to make sure you have enough clearance to shift both up AND down.

What mainly threw me off was the shift rod - I kept putting it it facing downwards. Lots of trial and error. Hopefully whoever installs this next won't blunder about blindly as I have :p

Thx for the write up. would be nice to see after pictures and the price for the reverse gear change control. there is no price on the Ducati website

Does this reverse gear change control works with OEM rearsets?

all stock - just install the wire, flip the rod, swap the lever part that's mounted on the motor, and you're done.

I ordered mine from amazon of all places, through ducati santa barbara. Got a good price. Install was super simple since I had already disassembled the stock one several times. I run it with stock rearsets. Though I have an 1199, dont know if there is a difference. I love my GP shift though. Makes it harder to steal my bike i think haha.

the problem is now I have to convert my Multistrada to GP shift - my brain isn't smart enough to learn the reflexes of one and switch back and forth :p

I'm confused.... in your instructions you state "flip the shift rod over and reattach. The black plastic box on the shift lever should now be facing upwards".
But in the photo, you can clearly see the black plastic box is facing down.

I was going to attempt this last weekend and I noticed my black sensor is already facing up. Is the photo before the change or are the instructions reversed? (up vs down) If the picture is correct, I can just go by that.

the pic is correct; my 5am typing was not. You're absolutely right, the box needs to face downwards and that's why the shift rod needs to be flipped.

when I did mine I didn't have to flip that blk box. there is no need to but just make sure that you can shift the gears without any issues. just takes time as there is not a lot of room to pay with

Did you have to adjust the linkage or did everything work when you changed out to the gear control lever piece that came with the cable? Thanks.

So this cable that is the new GP shift kit, does it merely swap the wires around?
If so why dont you just pull the factory shifter plug apart (de-pin tool) and swap core around...

because Ducati wants to make easy money off of people who don't own depinning tools? :p

Pretty funny but Yamaha uses did chains Honda rk unless ducati uses ek I think they use Regina but who knows. Anyway it's pretty hot nice work

He has a nice chain I just state facts here nice chain jlo world champ those are facts

De-pinning tool set. aka micro screwdriver set or a large needle or homemade ground down bike spoke.

exactly. now what percentage of 1299 owners are willing to do that in their own garage?

I bought the kit not for the wire, but for the gear lever that goes on the splined shaft. It solves clearance issues that some people had.

I could have paid nothing if I shaved a couple mm off my existing lever, but I don't have the tools to do that.
