1299 Oil Filter??

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

I just read it again and I suppose it could be interpreted to mean that the receipts have to come from the dealer but based on what I've heard in the past I don't think that's what it means. The important part in the second screen shot is the part about invalidating warranty for any "non-approved" parts. I'd avoid the K&N oil filter for that...or quickly swap in an oem filter prior to making a warranty claim.

As far as I am concerned im presented with a quandary. If I service the bike with my mechanic and something goes awry, the local dealer isn't likely to go to bat for me on a warranty issue. I might need to buy filters and other minor things at my local dealership so I want to keep a good relationship, but refuse to pay their ridiculous prices and I have my own mechanic that I know and trust. I guess I'm over reacting and don't need to deal with my local dealership in the event of a warranty issue, as I have another dealer not too much further away that I can deal with.

Maybe Ducati dealers are slightly different (I doubt it) but typically as soon as the sale is made there is very little in the way of a "relationship" - unless you're buying another bike soon. Buy filters on line, they are almost always cheaper. Buy high quality synthetic oil on line (Amsoil, Castrol, etc), it will be better than rebadged Ducati stuff. They can't void your warranty for doing an oil change yourself or somewhere else, that's ridiculous unless they can prove you forgot to properly fill the crankcase and had an oil starvation issue - even then it would be a stretch. I'm very particular about oil (and I get used oil analysis regularly), I always do my own oil changes.

I hate dealers in general, almost all of them are borderline crooks.

What K&N part #? Ok, 1199 - no one seems to know if they are the same

My local dealer told me that I must do both the 600 mile and 15,000 services with a Ducati dealership in order to keep the warranty valid...

He told you a blatant lie in regards to the first service.

As far as the 15000mi valve check, that is plausible. The thing is, with bikes and vehicles, your negligence or aftermarket part or actions (stunting/racing/etc) must have been the direct cause of the failure...or they can't void your warranty.

In other words, if you never change the oil and your dash stops working, they can't deny the warranty claim on the dash. Or like I did with my Duramax, if after i installed the aftermarket exhaust, EFI Live Tuner, cold-air induction and removed all of the DEF, DPF and emissions stuff....I had a failure with the Transmission, they can deny coverage. But if the Air Conditioner goes out, they can't deny covering that.

If you do not perform the 15000mi valve check, and have a motor problem afterwards, they would have a strong case for denying that coverage.

On the first service, no.

Surely everybody is aware of why dealers say that .... about the first service.............money.

Actual Dealer Costs (rough figures for the sake of examples):

Oil Filter = $10
Oil = $20
Labor (one mechanic getting paid $15/hour) = $15

In total the owner of the dealership actually spent approximately $45 doing the service on a new bike.

Lets use an average of $250 for the first service (I know it is much higher on some Ducati's, but they only charge $175-$200 for some Jap bikes).

Now lets say a dealer sells 1,000 bikes over the course of a year (for an easy number). If they can trick/con everybody into having the dealer do their first service...

$250 - $45 (dealer's actual cost) = $205.
$205 x 1000 bikes = $205,000 additional profit per year.

It is no wonder they tell everyone that ........ about how you MUST have the dealer perform the first service.

Called Pure Ducati in FL and the tech told me 44440312B is now the correct filter for all three models, 1299/1199/899

O-Rings 88650561A (Qty 2)
Crush Washer 85250541A (Qty 1)

Someone please check to see if the K&N is same size as 44440312B, $36 for an oil filter is stupid

but per Ducati Spare Parts Catalolgue, the number is "0291C"...

Pure Ducati tech guy said the old part numbers have been superceded by the one common part # - said he double checked

Someone just needs to measure them, they all appear to be standard cellulose media. Ducati probably pays $3 for them

I talked to my guy yesterday, told him I want two free filters when I pick it up. I should have started the negotiations at 10 now that I think about it.
