1299s Reliability

I’ve had my 1299S for 9k miles and the only issue I’ve had is constantly bleeding the clutch master. A few weeks ago I did change out the fluid for motul 600 so we will see if it’s more resistant to moisture.

I last winter I did flush the clutch and all the brakes. The brake fluid is still clear but the clutch master was dark which I thought was odd. I can only assume there is a weak spot in the system letting in moisture. My guess is the bleeder is failing as there is always fluid under the cap.

That's still not bad at all. I'd consider that pretty issue free. Most all bikes I've owned have had little things like that. Good to hear brother!

I have a 1299 since 2017, it has now almost 12000km on it …I have had to bleed the clutch a few times and it’s no real issue, I have had the dreaded water leak from the thermostat housing ( once that was sorted) it was fine but it was a pain ..I have had three MaP sensors blow over this period for no reason
the bike then feels like it has a dead plug and is very hard to ride home in low rpm which the blown sensor, again they are not that hard to instal or to test ( search this forum and the Diavel Forum) both use the same MaP sensor.
I have replaced the battery and tyres….often I think I will get rid of it for a jap bike or a more ( in my riding style) a BMW…then I go look the other bikes, …hands down these are I one bikes and are IMO more stylish

No 1098. Just the 1299 which was the first year 2015. I've had no issues with it, just changed the original battery. It has a bren tune and slip on's. Runs great.
Just did an akro slip on and tune on the aprilia. Great bike.

My 1199 had a valve cover leak (seepage), which I fixed on my own and was pretty simple once the subframe was removed, and that's pretty easy. It was the vertical cylinder so I can't comment on the horizontal replacement. I had 14K miles on the 1199 and that was the only gripe.

Fast-forward to trading that 1199 in for a 2015 1299S with only 1,080 miles on it back in 2017. Immediately purchased the Ever Red warranty which took me through 2020. Went through the entire warranty period without needing it, but for $600 it was well spent for peace of mind. I passed 10K miles recently and about a month ago the thermostat housing went (known as the squirter assembly). It was a pain in the ass replacing it, mostly because the stupid clip type clamps found in the parts manual leaked from the get-go (ordered new ones for the job). Through some screw type clamps on and it's running great again. Aside from that thermostat issue I've only replaced the chains/sprockets, brake pads and a battery. And as others have said, bleeding the brakes/clutch is a common requirement which I do a few different times throughout my riding season.

3500 miles, some track and mostly zero issues. The big gotcha on the surging is the canister. If you fill the tank up to the top and raw fuel enters the canister, those big pistons are getting extra fuel at low rpm and it can fatten up the ratio enough to cause stalling and surging. The fix is to remove the canister or don't top the tank off. I run with a half tank at the track and the funny thing is it runs perfectly, even motoring slowly up the ramps at the end of the day.

I haven't had any issues with the clutch, mostly use the quick shifter. Standing by for the first coolant or oil leak.

2013 1199 S fast canyon miles and fast B+ slow A speed track days, 6k hard miles. 2 map sensors, coolant flush, EBS EPFA brake pads and fluid flush and bled. new spark plugs.

only negative issues is sometimes N says im in 1rst, but cold starts are always fine. I can deal with that. 9 years of fun, and id do it again. melcog is awesome!!!!

Oh and did the water pump gear inside, its plastic and showed signs of wear.
