apologies if this has been discussed before but has anyone run a 190 rear tyre on their Panigale yet?
its just i have a brand new set of Bridgestones bt016 pro sitting in the garage and was thinking of fitting them to the new wheels i have got coming for my bike. will a 190 affect handling, tc, etc

it will definitely affect traction control. the traction control limits are set by ducati to the 200 rear tire diablo supercorsa they use as oem. Ducati states in the manual that using dirrerent makes of tires may affect TC, but now going to a different sized rear tire just exacerbates the situation.

Tips on how to select the sensitivity level
Warning
The DTC level 1 setting has been calibrated
using the tyres with SC2 compound (Pirelli Diablo
Supercorsa SC2) that are not those originally supplied
with your motorcycle. The use of this level with tyres
having different characteristics may alter the
operating characteristics of the system.

The DTC level 7 setting has been calibrated using
Rain tyres (Pirelli Diablo Rain with size 190/55 ZR17
at the rear) that are not those originally supplied with
your motorcycle. The use of this level with tyres
having different characteristics may alter the
operating characteristics of the system.
The DTC levels 2-3-4-5-6-8 settings have been
calibrated using the tyres originally supplied with your
motorcycle (Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP 120/70ZR17
at the front and 200/55ZR17 at the rear). The use of
tyres of different size and characteristics to the
original tyres may alter the operating characteristics
of the system.
In the case of minor differences, such as for
example, tyres of a different make and/or model than
the OE ones, but with the same size (rear = 200/55
ZR17; front = 120/70 ZR17), it may be sufficient to
simply select the suitable level setting from those
available in order to restore optimal system
operation.
If tyres of a different size class are used or if the tyre
dimensions differ significantly from the original tyres,
it may be that the system operation is affected to the
point where none of the 8 available level settings will
give satisfactory results. In this case is it is advisable
to deactivate the traction control system.
If level 8 is selected, the DTC system will kick in at
the slightest hint that the rear wheel is starting to
spin. Between level 8 and level 1 there are further
intermediate levels of intervention for the DTC.
Levels 1, 2 and 3 allow the rear wheel to spin and
slide: these levels are recommended on the track
only and exclusively for expert riders: in particular,
level 1 is designed to work at best only with tyres
having SC2 compound.
The choice of the correct level mainly depends on the
following parameters:
The tyre/asphalt grip (type of tyre, amount of tyre
wear, the road/track surface, weather conditions,
etc.).
The characteristics of the path/circuit (bends all taken
at similar speeds or at very different speeds).

I have been using bridgestone and Pirelli slicks with no adverse effects on track but stick to 200 section rear for the roads.
Hope this makes sense.

10tyre

thanks desmo dave for the info i think i will sell my bridgestones and get some oe pirellis
will try and meet you one day when i go to Snells

I have a set of S20 Bridgestones on mine now; put them on for the off-season with the idea of having something more suited to cool/damp conditions than the near-slick stockers. The new 190/55 S20 rear was taller than the worn 200/55 Supercorsa that came off the bike, so I wasn't expecting a big change in the TC effect. It was noticeable though, and I've gone from running it on 3 where I usually had it on the road, to playing with either 2 or 1. Actually have it off at the moment as I like to fool around with spinning up the rear off corners; must be the old dirt biker in me. Still, for serious work like on track I'd say you need to stay with OEM-spec tire sizes - at least until someone figures out how to tweak the TC tables.

Just to clarify, the DTC Level 1 is mapped to the 200/55 Pirelli SC2 race tire, not the 190/55 profile.

Sorry to bump this one up, i have the 1299 which in the manual doesn’t specify tyre sizes for each DTC setting.

I’m looking for racing rain tyres and I don’t think anyone makes 200/55 tyres so going to ask do you think 190/55 will do?

alternatively what’s the right size for Bridgestone w01s as their height are in hundreds (like 600)
