2015 R Exhaust Upgrade Questions

I thougt that only the Superleggera Akra-Muffler kit came with y-piece to delete flapper, the DP Akra muffler kit for Panigale R only comes with a smaller v-piece to connect the mufflers to the OEM R y-piece with flapper. Flapper valve actuation is elmiminated here by up-map.

Headers of Superleggera/Panigale R exhaust are made of steel, not Ti, see iamge.

Full DP Akra or Akra Evo comes of course with full ti headers and y-piece w/o flapper.

yes correct the manifolds themselves are stainless then the pipes are Ti kit definitely comes with a y piece that deletes flapper for R. thats whats on my 2015 R

Dont't you get this, see image. It's a picture from the part no 96480771A for 1299/1299S which only has a short V-piece not eliminating the flapper valve. The retail price according to Ducati website is the same as for the kit for Panigale R (96480891A). If this comes with a bigger Y-piece to replace the flapper valve housing, I would expect a higher price. Maybe Jarel can clarify.

You are correct...the Akrapovic exhaust race muffler (no cats) for the 2015-R does not come with the Y pipe - the flapper valves are left fully open (disabled)

I am awaiting to get the cored and free'd up R (Ti) cans back from my new welder. Will post up here. I also offer flapper valve deletes.

Evening Gents,

I am the proud owner of a 2015 R which has been brilliant for the first 2000km however I feel it is time to ditch the stock exhaust cans. I am see a lot of conflicted opinions about the construction of the stock R exhaust so I am hoping some of you knowledgeable folks may be able to answer some of my dot points below

- Are the stock R piping / headers full titanium? I.e same as Akra EVO aftermarket / Full Akra DP system
- If not should I purchase the FULL system of just the Akra DP "race" cans - What are the benefits?
- If I retain the stock piping / headers is the flapper valve / servo motor deleted by installation of the Akra DP "race" cans?
- Is purchasing the 899/1199 Akra EVO aftermarket system and use tuneboy a better alternative to either of those listed above?

Thanks in advance.

Just disconnect the cable from the flapper valve. That is cheap.

If you want to lose lots of weight, then you have to bite the bullet and buy the full EVO system. But to be honest to get a noticeable gain for about 25% of the price, get a tuneboy system or better yet if you are in Sydney get Wayne to put it on the dyno for you and get a custom tune rather than just a standard map. I noticed a lot more after he did that than I did after I put the full EVO system on my bike.

You sure that's a big jump for a can and up map, I didnt get that big a jump when I put a rapid bike and full akra on my 2013 R

Positive. Same dyno before and after. 2013 and 2015 R are very different bikes.

Just to be clear....you dynoed a 2013 R and 2015 R back to back, both with a full system and the newer bike had 10 more hp? Where were those gains? Which pipes were installed?

I have a 2013 R that I race and I am buying a 2016 R this week.

Thanks :)

Sounds about right that the new bike bike really rips right through the rev range especially the top end.

i made the same switch as you and while i have not compared track times yet the new R is certainly quicker with better turn in. My biggest concern is getting to grips with the extra oomph.

@reganc,

So on the street you were able to notice an improvement of the new 2015-2016 R over the 2013 R?

i don't ride on the street so i could not tell you, but i think i would be hard pressed to notice it riding at street speeds.

@reganc,

I see so you have had your new R on track and it "felt" like it had better turn in and was faster?

The turn in is most likely from the change in rake angle which is quite different from the 2013 R which had 24.5 degree bearing cups. The newer R is 23.5. I know because I have all three sets :) They put 24 on the 899/1299. The website isn't accurate on this info.

Incorrect. Akra DP Race Kit for the 15+ R includes a new Y Pipe that deletes the flapper. I purchased and installed the kit myself recently.

For those searching old threads looking to purchase the 15+ R specific kit, you will receive 2 cans, 2 Springs, Y Pipe with flapper delete, and Up-Map.
