2020 V4S or 2019 V4R if not FOR RACING

To each his own for sure. Here in Michigan where the roads are not great from a condition perspective, I really like the adaptive suspension. I find the race setting to be a little harsh for driving around when not at the track.

Something to think about is that the R is designed more for the track, and racing. Meaning more maintenance, and higher upkeep.

I debated a similar issue. I have a 19 V4S and wanted a dry clutch and akra. Main reason I spent the money versus getting an R was frankly I love the sport setting for the street. Call me old if you want but around Detroit roads the race setting is aggressive. So I have a great sounding bike that is easy to maintain (dry clutch) and when I go to the track (2-3 times a year) I put it in race mode and have a blast. My two cents.

Does your V4S have the Akra?

there are still 2019 V4R models brand new on showroom floors. These guys at one specific dealership was trying to have me buy it for a deal: $45,000 out the door with full Akra installed
I’m sure the 2020 would have been closer to $50K

I think I’ve decided to wait till this time next year and go pick up leftover 2020 V4S to compliment my 1299S. Plan is to never get rid of the 1299 and rack up the miles on the brand new bike and then trade it in for a new one as I see fit.
1299 is real special to me now as Ducati moves away from the big twin

I was going to pull the trigger on one of the first 2020 model V4S in the country but it was $38,000 out the door with the full Akra installed.

anyone wanna let me know how much your V4 cost with the full Akra?

This has been discussed a lot and if you are not racing, the V4S is the better bike. The electronically adjustable suspension is better for the street. The larger displacement with more midrange is also better for the street. IMO, buying a V4R to run strictly on the street is more for the exclusivity, bragging rights or "because I can", rather than it giving you a better experience on the street. However, there is a bit of that even buying the V4 base for the street. If you are truly about the riding experience, there are much better street bikes like the KTM 1290 or 1290GT or even better, the new V4 streetfighter. To truly appreciate all that the V4 is, you need to be on a track.

I got an V4S for 25k last year as a 19MY. Feel that was a decent deal. Now I’m putting 7.5k into it to get a dry clutch and akra.

I know there are deals on Rs out there but my S in race mode is pretty brutal on the streets. Not sure I want an R unless it’s a track only bike.

Can you dive into this a little more, obviously dry clutch needs attention ever 4K miles but what about DESMO Service and engine oil life?
The R is always built to the most performance possible, less piston rings than the regular models(burn oil). I thought the service intervals were shorte.
