Feel it in your hand or cornering or?

Yeah I don’t think I’ll mess with the spokes but might not be too hard to get a sick finish outta the rims? Just blend it with a cartridge roll and clear over it all when finished? Maybe?

Think that guy pry’d the pads back on the one bike before he shot that?

*the fronts on my drag bikes spin like that and they click (his clunked?) but it’s not just they have floating rotors. They have billet calipers and billet masters that are designed to pull the pads back a ways

Honestly not a huge difference at all, however I do think the rotors can lose a weightloss as well. I've heard we have 330mm rotors and I have seen guys drop down to 320mm for additional weight savings. The wheels are noticeably lighter, id imagine from cast to these would be drastic

Great info in here.

I naively thought most bikes had full floating rotors for like decades. Now I’m wondering how I was so mistakenly informed, and why they don’t.

Craig, they are actually semi floating rotors. I believe they are sold as semi floating rotors just for mass production reasoning. The oem buttons are just riveted on, saving time and money. Than charge people about 7-800 dollars for full float rotors. Same reason my Honda sp came with rubber brake lines. Hondas staple "race ready" bike and the brakes were awful, terrible brake fade just after a few laps. They can never sell you the best possible bike, because there still needs room to be left to make more money

True. Benefits both sides to put cheaper components in. Manufacturer saves money, aftermarket makes money. Even if money were not a factor, it wouldn't make sense to put top spec components in a showroom floor machine. Most race teams immediately rip off everything they can to put their own equipment on the bike. Ducati could spend the money for a full float rear rotor but race teams will still replace it and the common street rider won't know the difference, so no point in doing it. Honda used rubber lines because anyone serious about racing or being on track will eliminate the ABS, requiring new brake lines, which likely won't be rubber. Common street rider is probably never going to experience brake fade.

Well said maverick

Makes sense fellas.

So, are the popular aftermarket rotors like Brembo t-drives and Braketech axis iron full floating?

is a full floating rear rotor option available? I’m surprised this isn’t a more commonly discussed issue.

Yes full float rear rotor is an option, superbike unlimited sells the braketech rear rotor. A little on the pricey side, but you get what your pay for. Personally I was not trying to spend 800+ on rotors to get full float functionality. I have also heard that the tdrives are rather quite heavy

Sicom also makes a carbon ceramic floating rear option. 800 bucks exactly. I know they're significantly lighter than stock, not sure how it compares to Braketech. I ordered the non-floating one back in August, but Sicom got obliterated by COVID and Bellissimoto is still waiting for it to show up.

a full floating rotor makes more noise and drives the pistons more back. this can become a real issue when you go straight with no brake.
seen on tv.
at the rear? for what? what do you expect?

Just want to clarify on where you have seen this on TV? Have you seen performance on/off track or had prior experience with full float rotors?

As far as the rear goes, there is a lot of friction in the drive system. 1 being the chain, 2 being the thicker grease in the eccentric hub bearings, amd 3 being the gear box. 1 and 2 are far more easier and way more cost efficient. 3 would be a great long term benefactor with micpolishing gear box and ceramic bearings, reduced friction and I've heard that the ducati gears and shafts have terrible oem coating.

Rear floating rotor would be asthetics and further reduce rotor to pad friction.

T drive is full floating

I do not believe all the Brembo are tho bro
Ah ok wasn't sure on the t drives. Yes not all, I'm sure they specify on the description. I myself could not justify 800+ dollar rotors at the moment, so just modified stockers. I do believe that full floaters are not for everyone, they clank and make a lot of noise lol

Is anyone in the Ducati community doing this? I figure someone must be. EDR is doing it for my gsxr 750 build currently.

I am waiting for the quote for labor. Sucks we don't have cassette style gear box. So my quote is based on me removing the engine and the tech breaking it down, sending everything out, and reinstalling with ceramic bearings
