For those running a 520 chain kit on the V4

how much does it last?

or how much less, does it last compared to a stock 525 chain?

my last stock chain lasted around 9k miles

just want to know if a 520 last 5k or 3k

Its definitely not going to break if that's what your wondering. It will last 9k miles if you keep things maintained, good chain slack and clean. I change out my chain and sprockets every 1-2k miles or when I have stuff apart which is pretty frequent.

Depends how you push the bike and depends how often you lube the chain

If you care about the chain, usually 1 year

Maybe a dumb question but how do you know if a chain needs replacing? Is there a certain stretch?
Round tooth (from one side or both sides) is a very good indicator that chain has been too tight or not lubed often.
Misalignments between front and rear sprockets can cause excessive wear on side of sprockets.

Which are good 520 chains?
Depends on who you ask

I have had terrible experiences with DID and AMAZING experiences with EK

But I was into drag racing so what do I know?

12” wide contact patch and throwing the clutch lever at 10,125 rpm (held there by a 2 step limiter while at wide open throttle) doesn’t really stress a chain ha

*especially when throwing 150 shot at a 300+ hp motor at the hit

I had tried a EK few years back just to see how it was gonna work. It was a nice high quality chain but unfortunately the tolerances are quite a bit different then say oem or DID. Tried few different brand rear sprockets which destroyed them all in short time. Went back to ERV3 and new sprockets didn't have the same issues.

snake, you dont need anything special or proprietary. I use diesel for cleaning the chain and Bel Ray spray lube. You are just looking for a friendly solvent like Kerosine to wash the grit off and some kind of lube that creates a film, even gear oil is ok but will need more frequent application. X or O ring chains are meant to be self lubricating internally but the plates and rollers need lubrication.

WD-40 is only thing I used for years for cleaning and surface lubrication, as stated before "o -x" ring chains are sealed...
Chain maintenance is one of most overlooked items on bike maintenance list. This is weird and I don't understand why people do that considering what that chain is going through let's say one race or td session!!!???
