been looking and can't find one. Either stock 39T or 41T is fine, but every 520 rear sprocket option requires buying the whole kit and caboodle. Would like to just swap in a 520 and be done with it; I don't need fast sprocket change abilities.

give supersprox a call... they do not need any carrier etc etc.. used them on my 1098, and will most likely use them on the 1199..

Unless planning on racing which may benefit from weight reduction (minimal at best) the stock 525 system is absolutely fine! You can go up one in the rear if you want a little more ooomph off the red light, but I see all these guys looking to swap over to 520 because everyone else is doing it (btw I am NOT saying that about you right here in any way whatsoever my friend!!) But there isn't a thing wrong with the 525 (especially brand new) so give it some time and spend your cash elsewhere on something else which can truly give you something beneficial for real.

However, if you want some help getting what you want here shoot me a PM and I'll be glad to lend a hand brother. ;)

So true Gunny Fitz, I have tried about everything out there in some way shape or form... Personally have found 525 set-ups to last longer than 520 kits,.. and for the 1lb drop in weight I prefer the longevity. A gold chain is damn pretty and adds a touch of class though.

interesting perspective. I've always done 520 swaps to shave weight. But it's not just the chain; going aluminum for the rear sprocket, etc, it adds up. It always *feels* lighter, but that's probably because of adding a couple teeth to the rear sprocket :p

FWIW I've never had durability problems with 520 setups. But then, I've never had more than 85lb/ft of torque; 107lb/ft is significantly more!

This day and age the amount that you would spend in gas to wear out a high performance 520 chain is many times over the chain's cost.

Look at grabbing an 1199R setup; factory 41T.

In my experience (with other brands), a high quality 520 chain and hard anodized aluminum sprockets will last longer than the OEM parts.

Keep in mind it isnt just shaving weight (with the 520 kit, aluminum sprocket and lightweight carrier), it is also shaving rotational and unsprung mass. 1-3lbs might not sound like much, but you shave 1-3lbs of rotational mass and you have accomplished something.

With all of that being said, if it was a street bike only, i wouldnt bother. When i buy bikes for the street, i will run the OEM stuff till it wears out, then make a change. I am not worried about saving weight on the street, it doesn't matter.

1199Rs come factory with 520 chains?

This.

has anyone here actually complete a 520 swap on their 1299? what parts and gearing did you go with, if so?
