M ydealer told me that after the initial 1st service at 620miles then i could basically do as i liked with it and i have heard on here from others who,s dealers have said the same, and yet of course the manual says that we should do another 900 odd miles before taking it over 7k revs, otherwise they aint gonna payout in the case of a warrenty claim.
So what have we all decided to do?? go with the dealers advice and ignore the 7k limit or go by the book and stick with that frustrating 7k limit for the extra miles?
Personally im struggling to keep it below 6k!!

Give the data management on modern bike I would respect the rpm limit so as to ensure warranty remains in place. For example, BMW gave a 3 yr warranty on its 450X enduro racer, where no one else really gave one, but BMW also had a engine management system that showed if the rider abused operating limits. In the case of the 450 it was designed for trails and racing, not sustained highway riding etc. so the data management system will note that.

I'd go by the book. The tri ain't cheap so I'd stick to what ever the book says. I'm sure the bike will the fine if you go over the limit and the limit is in the conservative side but that's what I'm gonna do.

Nah - thrash it!!!

Given the sophisticated dash and tacho which automatically jumps to 10,500 after 622miles I would say to Ducati that you were following the limit programmed by them and didn't know about the 7k limit in the event of any warranty issues.

Also given the number of people who have had the bike run in on the dyno with no problems I can't believe it'll be an issue. I'm sticking to 10,500 to 1,000 miles and then all bets are off.

Dyno break in at 50 miles and baseline dyno run.

I followed the break in recommendation through 2500 km / 1553 mi., but the tuner's comment was thrash it. Not going to do anything that hasn't already been done.

Stuck to 6k ish until 621 miles. Now sticking to 7k ish for a bit more, maybe until 1000. Then I'm going to start stepping it up to full rpm by 1500. I want to keep a keen eye on the oil condition and level a bit longer before i start thrashing it. The oil was very ...... at 600 miles and so I figure it's still wearing in. Obviously Ducati are being over cautious with their new engine, but I don't want any warranty disputes.

I stuck to 5500 rpm for the first 623. Got it serviced and didn't pass 7000 rpm. Got the oil changed again at 1250 just for kicks and finally started opening it up to its full capabilities.y dealer told me to try to ride it for awhile after the first service and obey the 7000 limit because there is a reason for it. Plus it's a new motor. Rather be safe then sorry and for me miles racked up quite quickly

Interesting one.

For some reason, I've pretty much stuck to the pre-service guidelines and will do so thereafter.

Maybe thats the difference in a EUR32k Ducati and EUR18k S1KRR I almost bought.

.... hang on, the '12 BMs have been blowing up :D

I hope my bike don't snitch on me, went a couple of time slightly passing 6k limit to pick up speed and one false neutral.. I'm crossing my fingers on my 1st service, has anybody had issue with the warranty certificate if done a couple 7k on bike b4 the breaking in RESTRICTION.

Seriously don't know why everyone is so worried about the warranty issue, bottom line is if you had to go over that initial limit prior to full run in period due to a certain road situation where you had to do it, then Ducati really would have to have very good evidence that you didn't over rule the recommended rpm over safety!?

And I thought it was just my bike that the orange indicator on the rev range changed from 6k rpm to 10500 rpm! I thought it was suppose to change to 7k rpm and then increase as the miles do?!

I personally will not be thrashing it till around the 1500 mile mark, but it will experience the odd exposure to the rev range and if that pops over 7k rpm then so be it....

Take it to 11, the calmer your break-in the lower max power your bike will make in the future

The argument about revs during break-in is such a good old one... there's tons of theories.

Here's what I've learned from breaking-in two Monsters, a 996, 998 and an s4rs.

- Ducati engineers say that its' ALL about variable rpms, not only a ceiling.
- Warranty has never (since I've been reading Duc boards) been voided by RPM abuse during break-in. I was always told that only problems that arise out of obvious abuse and can be diagnosed as such abuse could be denied as a claim.

Could a dealer really say your clutch slave isn't covered because you went to 7000 rpms for 1.75 secs? (Well, at least here in the USA with DNA, Ducati of North America.)

I was told to ride it like I stole it to seat the rings, and that babying it would cause poor ring seating and excess oil consumption. This is from the head tech at my dealer.

Porsche have similar issue with their warranties (in UK), however, when I picked up a new 911 four years ago I was told by the sales guy that there would only be a warranty issue as a result of sustained breach of the "running in" suggested rev limits. Short (and therefore probably not deliberate) breaches would not cause a problem.

If, however, I put on non Porsche parts even such as windscreen wipers, that could cause a warranty problem!

Yeah, that figures, especially since Porsche makes a mint off of selling THEIR goodies and bits.

strange guys.. here in holland you have the 1000km service , oil change. but after that there is NO restriction anymore.. just open it up fully.:p
also my dash changed.. and it also indicates that i am able to go full rpm. it is not changed to 7k.,
