899 Panigale Single Sided Swingarm Conversion

Help Support Ducati Forum:

I wouldn't do it myself, but I get the whole obsession with the SSSA. One of the reasons I got into Ducati in the first place was the SSSA, dry open clutch and trellis frames (and of course the whole twin thing). Now sadly most of that is gone, esp with the 899 when all 3 of the things I loved about the brand are missing. :(

1199 swingarm officially enroute. Had finally confirmed the mounting points are the same including linkage. I'm hoping I can shorten the wheel position by a mil or two to get closer to the 899 original wheelbase. (FYI swingarm cost - was used - 750 for full assembly minus rear wheel) assuming total cost will be a little over a grand. For those with "such a waste of money, should have bought an 1199" comments. Appreciate the constructive criticism (insert sarcasm here) but if I wanted the 1199 I'd have bought it. Pretty confident most of us spend close to this amount on carbon bits, etc which are for the most part due to cosmetic reasons.
Will post some pics when starting. Any other tips or suggestions welcome in the meantime.

Good for you man. I did a bunch of modifications on a VFR back in 99. Everyone told me the same thing until it was done. Then everyone got the concept and actually liked the bike a lot. I ended up selling it to a guy who just couldn't live without it. It was a fun bike and something totally unique.

Have a good time!:)

great project, good luck, looking forward to see the outcome!

Happy it is working out. We apologize for the idiots, that even after you asked not to be told to get a 1199, did anyway. And you are right, those same people but way more than that in "bling" on their bikes, where this might actually help yours. Reminds me of the LED mod, and "shoulda got an S" statements. Same money as your project, and just a different light bulb lol.

Please start a new thread on your project with pics and hours.

I was once told that you cant fit that SS1000DS motor into a SS600 (made registartion in NZ cheaper), so I proved them wrong in a matter of hours, laugh in the face of the non believers and the haters when you have it done!!!
I say go for it it will be unique and everyone will want to do it.

I'm a little late to the party, but I posted a while back a photoshopped ghost vision of the 899 swingarm and the 1199 swingarm and the points were, in fact, the same. Happy that's been verified.

In most cases, projects that seem fairly straightforward are anything but. Hopefully this really is just a bolt-on swap, leaving the only difficult part to get the handling dialed in.

I'm looking forward to lots of pics and a walk-thru of the project!

Screw what other people say that are negative, it's your bike, do what you want.

Alex

Don't be discourage and go for it. I know when I bought my base and wanted to put the LED lights on Ducati and and everyone said it was too expensive just get the S but I didn't like the suspension on the S. There have been pioneers on this forum that did the LED mod and others mods for pretty cheap. That is what makes this forum so good.

I understand I sounded negative with my comment. Some like to tinker and "play" with their bikes. I, myself, like to ride it... To do major mods aren't my thing, but more power to you if that's what you want to do.. Good luck...

Thanks for the feedback guys. Have the 899 already, didn't want the 1199 just to ride it in wet mode for 80 % of the time. If you've ridden the 1199 you'll know it's way more sensitive on the throttle and basically less fun for me having to focus on managing the extra power.
I've found 1199 swingarm's used online for roughly 1,000 complete with hub, brake, mounting parts etc. Not sure if I'd need a new master cylinder or whether I could use the existing one ? How much the handling will be affecting, and more importantly if the parts simply bolt-on or not. I'm sure someone sooner or later will do it, hoping not to be the guinea pig.

i honestly never under stood that: too much power?
i had an 848 SF and i was told the 1098 was too much power. A few months later i bought a 2012 SF 1098 loved it so I sold the 848 SF. Same with the pani, the first day i rode it was after randy from bellissimoto bought it of someone on here for me. Flew out to their shop, hopped on it, straight to race mode and rode the hell out of it in the city then went up to deals gap. Bike was even easier to ride than the streetfighter. In fact its being worked on by bellissimoto and I've asked to go 2 up on the rear sprocket. All said, would love to see your build. go for it
