Do not pay $1000 for stock forks that’s crazy

Stock 959 forks but with ohlins 30mm cartridge
That’s what I meant

I thought you were asking me about the ones I have now

The ones for sale add from a 959 not 899
And have 30mm ohlins cartridge
Only about 1000 miles on them

The seals were serviced and the oil was changed. If that's the whole story, then the discrepancy in length may be the result of an error in assembly. A fork cap (for instance) that wasn't installed correctly/fully on the rod, could be the culprit. If that were the case, the error would likely be found in the longer leg. Separate the stanchion tube from the cap on each fork and compare the cap's installed height on the rod. No mess and no expertise required to make that check... just a pin wrench.

Its possible the dampening rod unthreaded from the top cap on the inside. If they did not torque it properly when they re assembled it after the service. If so the cap will come completely off when unthreaded from the tube. It should not do that. But if so it should be a fairly easy fix.

I dropped them off this morning
Will let you guy know what they find

I played with the preload adjusters and putting one all the way clockwise and the other all the way counterclockwise they got close to be even but of course not the way I want them to be.

Got a call back from the suspension shop
Preload adjuster on one leg is Brocken and not doing what it’s supposed to, it works outside of the fork when the cartridge is out but one we they put it inside and back together with oil it stops working.

They got them together and as closed as perfect in size but I won’t be able to adjust the rebound on that leg at least not much
He said only a few clicks would work but not much

Going to put them back on but definitely will look for a cartridge kit for my showas
Doing some reading I’m considering
Ohlins 30mm or Ktech 25mm (the guy who work on these forks is British and a big fan of Ktech

Other option is finding a good deal on a set of forks with an already installed cartridge hopefully with a close to my weight spring (175 no gear)

With all the cool stuff you are doing to this bike it (and you) prolly deserve better anyways

What they charge you to go thru em?

And how much more would it had been to make em right?

Guessing it was enough for you to say screw that just slap em back together

I don't get why they can't fix it.

When you hit the upper limit on the preload I know the Showa forks will get extra force (preload) from the bottom out spring, but it still makes no sense as to when they can't repair it.

He did say it was fixable but had to order a part from Ducati and it was not going to be cost effective if in the end I was already thinking about upgrading to better components

They are Showa forks. You can fix it without using a Ducati p/n.

You are totally right
I’ll get more details tomorrow. When I spoke to them it sounded like they didn’t know why they would work fine when apart and when dropped inside the fork tube they would not work. Getting frustrated
Depending what they tell me tomorrow I may even just leave them there and have them order the upgraded cartridge.

If you bring me yer blown up motor I might give it back to you disassembled (if once you found out how hurt it was you decided to just pay for disassembly and inspection and buy a used replacement or something) but there is no way any competent mechanic would give yer .... back to you reassembled and still ...... up

That’s just wrong

And these are suspension components of a MOTORCYCLE! Wtf? I wouldn’t go back there bro

Picked them up
Perfectly level now
Same rebound and compression
Preload is a hit off on them a few clicks
If I start adjusting the preload on the right leg is when it starts to extend a bit. Will start hunting for a set of forks with already installed cartridges OR will order new cartridges in a couple of months
From what I gather is the lower valve on the right leg where the problem is

Paid $120
$100 for the work plus 20 for new oil
