+1 you guys are a tough crowd. The way I see it Rossi is a legend, ( and a closet homosexual), who changed the sport and was one of a kind, till 2007. At that point being Rossi wasn't about talent anymore, Spain bottled the formula and started mass production, (that partially includes Stoner).. Lucky Rossi was a brand at that point and incorporated.
Rossi is still a great competing at this point in his career and life. That being said,
1 Rossi befriended MM and "invited him" to his ranch to ride with him. He used MM as much as MM used him.
2 To be great man, you need a great Saitan, two or more is better Rossi has that now
3 I think many of the riders of today could push their Careers far into the future if they chose to...they're all champions and world class athletes. Some take their winnings and leave some build corporations from winning, that's in all sports. Rossi now needs Moto GP as much as they need him.
4 I wish Rossi would move to the stage where he starts the equivalent of the DRE and a Moto 2 or Moto GP team. I think more people would love him.
Finally as with the "The Man that Would be King" (a classic movie) the problem comes when the person that is being worshiped blindly starts to believe himself he should be worshipped.
All the other riders, Stoner included, just wanted their talent respected. Rossi wants pyramids built in his name. Maybe people will do it for him.
