I was just browsing through the accessory list and some of the ones listed which most of the folks here add to their bikes say "meant for track use only"..

Does that mean that if I ride a Panigale with these parts fitted on while on a street, can I get pulled over by the cops for having something that is not street legal?

I apologize if I sound a bit naive here but I am not sure what regulations are out there between street use and track use.

That means either 1) the parts are supposed to be DOT approved and are not or 2) the companies are trying to limit their liability for having a part fail on the street.

Police won't bust you for anything unless it's perhaps an open exhaust or blue flashing headlights. As long as the supplier is reputable, you shouldn't ever have any issues with a 'track use only part'. Just keep in mind that they might not last as long as a stock part, so if it's an item related to safety you should inspect and/or replace more often.

To make it more clear.. I am referring to the Ducati accessories listed on the Ducati website so these r proper first party ones

Hmmm

corse rearsets say track only. i think its marketing and trying to hype the product but i will feel safer with corse rearsets because they are stickier or grippier i will say then the stock ones. i actually felt offended taking delivery to the stock rearsets on the R! they are useless and really slippery!!!! but unless its the R exhaust everything is street legal. I say R exhaust because of heattt with no fan and being on red lights is ABUSE

It's marketing and reducing their liability. With accessories like the full-exhaust system they have to say "track use only" because it's decatted and violates the EPA laws. Yes you can buy it, but the responsibility is yours. I think they extend that to other parts, mainly for marketing. If they ever start smog testing motorcycles we're screwed. But, I have yet to be pulled over purely for track use only rear sets... or my exhaust, or my mirror block-off turn signals, or lack of reflectors, etc... caveat emptor.

I have been riding three Ducatis which all had a wide range of aftermarket goodies and was never questioned by cops about any of them. Keep in mind that this might vary from state to state and cops in Europe get downright anal about this :D
The only issues I had was being stopped for speed (mph that is). No tickets though :)

Depends on where you live. In Cali, the cops write BS tickets for all kids of stuff. I found that the most common is having a full exhaust with no CAT, turn signals not DOT approve, no reflectors where needed,or license plate mounted in wrong place....outside if that....you should be fine. Typically, you will only get hounded about an exhaust if u are already pulled over.

I live in MN so I hope the cops don't get fussy abt the stuff ppl put on bikes.. I have a clean DMV record for the past 7 yrs

The Termi full system is one I would put for sure as I would like to start tracking the R once I get enough experience which a cheaper bike which I plan to keep for tracking to start with to gain that experience and confidence. Otherwise my R would be mainly for street and weekend riding to begin with

don't brings the evo pipe to Germany without the DB killers... :)

I don't intend on riding it in Europe and I will have the dB killers on for sure otherwise it will appear like I want to show everyone when my bike is breaking wind ;)
