Akrapovic installed

picked up the last part of the install today. its a plug for the detached servo motor connector--that way dust and water doesnt get into the loose connector. its ducati part no. 96700312A. its a plastic dummy plug. it cost $13.59 lol. you dont really need it. i didnt see an error on the dash either way. buy this if youre ocd. ive seen some other aftermarket stuff online with wires costing $40 or more. what for?! this plastic plug for $13 will do the job.

Great job on your install, the exhaust looks beautiful!

I just picked up the same system and will be installing it next weekend. Do you have any important tips/recommendations or things that you would have done differently to make the install a bit easier for the first time? I assume you just followed the instructions from akrapovic?

Also, did the bike throw any codes or lights after the install? Did you use a tune with the full exhaust?

Take your time n be patient. Be prepared to throw a few f bombs here n there and make sure u have a beer or two handy somewhere close. Do not tighten anything before u link all the pipe pieces together. Hand tighten if anything but make sure it's still loose enough to undo just in case. You don't "need" to remove anything besides the side fairings but if u wanna make things easier, remove as much as the instructions tell you to. I chose the hard route n removed side fairings only. Definitely possible to do the job but be prepared to throw in a few more unexpected SOB's, f bombs, etc.

You do not need an upmap/tuning to run this exhaust and it does not throw any codes. Install n enjoy. If u wanna optimize your expensive exhaust, invest in a fueling device (upmap, rapidbike, etc).

there are no error codes or lights that come on after the install, which requires you to remove the servo motor on the stock exhaust. i did not do any aftermarket refueling (e.g., tuneboy). the bike rides just as well (actually better) as with the stock system. as mentioned before, akra designed this exhaust to work with the stock fuel mapping. that is not to say that throwing a tuneboy on there wont make it even better though.

I found it easiest to remove the lower radiator fan shroud. Makes getting to the front header bolts much easier. With the right tools, you only have to remove the fairings.

Can i remove the servo motor when i install the akra? Want that heavy ... thing gone.

What is the Akra going for on the 1299? Any good places to purchase/order it from? Right now I can only find it for $ 4,999 with the Up Map.

Not to necropost...but, I wonder how much hotter it would be w/o the heat shield on the loop. Has anyone tried that on the Akrapovic full system?

I'm currently riding my bike that way. Can only give feedback, from stock with Ducati modded shield and engine guards installed, as I've yet to ride full Akro with the shield mounted.
Removed engine guards, no big difference there, bike looks much better. But the fire on my right thigh is like a raw flame! Never mounted the Akro shield as I wanted to give it a whirl. I'll mount it eventually. Just used Dremel to cut a small channel so I can easily slide it over exhaust sensor line, without having to remove everything.
Cheers!

I installed the full Akrapovic system this weekend w/ the heat shield in place. Its 90 F and pretty humid here today. Just riding around town it was hot, but I don't think it was especially more hot than with the stock system.

Do you notice the heat when moving or while stopped?

titanium disperses heat more easily than steel; on our bikes, it's probably the most attractive feature of titanium pipes (over the 2.5lb weight loss).

btw, is the front header really that hard to remove? on the 1299 I can clearly see each of the 3 nuts and they seem easy to get to.

rear header will definitely be a piece of cake. Doesn't take long to rotate the subframe upwards and get the heat shield off.

Haven't looked at headers on 1299, but from reports here, just some diameter differences. As long as the right tools are used, and you remove all that might limit your angle of approach or range of motion, (Subframe, cooling fan shroud) it should be pretty painless. Some have managed without removing much of anything other than the lower panels..

Get one of these...10mm 1/4" drive. Helps immensely. Slide a piece of cardboard next to the radiator to protect it.

Hi,

I had no problems to loosen and tighten the top nut on the horizontal cylinder with this tool:

Knarren-Ring-Maulschlüssel - HAZET

this open/ring wrench is one of the best tools you can buy, and the ring insert with it's fine ratchet enables you to work also with minimal freedom of movement!

I have a complete set of it and it safed me already a lot of time!
