wd40 to take them off throttle grip is tucked over the inside edge use a flat edge driver to lift off hairspray to put them back on just dont tell the wife
rocky:D

Is the throttle grip glued to the throttle cylinder, ie do you have to cut it off, or can you just remove it with the old air hose trick?

Not glued from the factory, though I still cut mine off - not like I've ever going to put the stock grips back on.

sorry to resurrect an old thread.

i've been getting lots of pain in my palms lately so went for some pro-grips dual compound to see if that helps. Quick question, after fitting the new ones will they slip around/off without safety wire? I bought some of the fitting spray which I assume lets them grip afterwards.

fitting spray, spray glue, hair spray... all work.

wired mine, will have to change them soon though, due to wear.

have some domino's sitting and waiting...

i changed them twice already. first i changed to the progrip 717 but they came closed end and the jaggard cut i made drove me nuts. the knobby grip never looked cleaned for me for whatever reason (think it was my gloves). anyway they do have a great feel.
i now have the progrip 724.
cant go wrong with progrip

razor to get them off took 10 seconds. hairspray to get them on 10 more seconds.

thanks all. will try in the next day or two. I went with PGO724s in the end. They definitely need much softer and more padded then the originals. I must be getting old!

For me I just eased the stock ones off without damage and then used soapy water to slide the new grips on. The next day I could still move the left one so I took a can of air (the stuff you dust off your computer with) and pulled up the end of the grip, stuck the plastic tube in and blew out all the moisture. Now they do not move and no glue was needed.

installed progrips on mine. much better for grip, comfort, and takes some vibs away as well. very easy install...just pull off the old ones and slide on the new one. may need a little bit of lubrication. awesome upgrade in my book.

Gunny, those Domino 3 grips look kind of interesting. I wonder if they actually work.

Has anyone tried the Spider Grips at all? I heard they're supposed to be ok as well.

Driven D3 Grips. I love them! A little thicker than stockers so my hands don't cramp up as much.

OMG I LOVE Spider Grips! Very helpful extra-tacky feel and vibe-reduction, especially on rainy trackdays here in the PNW. I have a set of Spidergrips going on my Pani as soon as I can find my ....... safety wire pliers!

Was indeed a nice easy job, thanks all. I managed to get the left one off without but throttle side ripped - but it's not as if I will be re-using the original ones. Using grip lubrication spray really made it simple.

word of warning, dont use grips like I did to undo the bar-ends as even with a rag between they still mark easily (wish I bought a large enough allen-key now)....

Lol, yeah Auto-zone sells 3/8 drive hex set for like $10.

Spidergrips went on today. Very happy with the feel. They don't ugly-up the bike but they are a bit shorter than the stock grips in case you're wondering. They also don't wrap around either side of the throttle tube like the stockers, but very close.

Grips went on easy after dropping them in boiling water for 30s (like putting Magpul grips on the end of PMAGs) and coating the inside with hairspray. Definitely safety wire them.
