Dealer is telling me it's off the chain as a result of first service, I'm thinking not.

Clean it off. If it comes back probably oil leak. Maybe at oil filter cover

He's probably telling you half the truth.

Yes, it's a result of the first service, but more like where they spilled engine oil during filter change and didnt bother to cover or clean the exhausts.

Scrubbed the .... out of it, won't clean off, but it's clean enough to see if it comes back fresh. Will let you know.

Geeteethree, that looks like oil...I'm sure that aint chainlube either as chainlube does not leak that way...could be what XBox said..."spilled engine oil during filter change..."

Geeteethree, use 3M scotch bright scrub/cloth...rub it the same direction as the natural aluminum texture...then get a can of degreaser...spray above, below, inbetween the aluminum cover and the muffler...let the degreaser set for 10mins, then hose it off...

That way you will know if the oil is coming from the engine...as the oil residue on the muffler or engine was already cleaned out by the degreaser.

There have been several cases of oil leaks on that side. Def clean it with brake clean. Mine is at the dealer getting a leak investigated.

Took mine back after an oil leak started after the first service; 1 week later they called and said they are giving me a new engine from Ducati. They said the oil could have caused the bike to catch fire because oil was leaking on top of exhaust. Not a satisfied customer now.

I'm guessing the oil filter cover is cracked and leaking. Beware dumbshit service "techs". The Pani oil filter cover is a bit of a PITA to get off/on as it is not symmetrical and has two o-rings to seal it up. If the tech tried to pry it off, or installed it upside down, then he likely cracked the mounting tab so it isn't sitting in the filter hole correctly... You should inspect it yourself to be sure what the problem is and take a close-up pic and post it up. Beware the dumbshit tech.

and beware of more oil getting under the aluminum exhaust cover, into the heatshield / mat (might soak it up) and potentially collecting it there for a nice oven roasted panigale!!!

try a little brake clean on a rag to wipe off, no scotch pads they scratch metal.

Hi Zaid1199...reason I suggested scotch pads precisely to scratch off the stained oil which kinda stained his aluminum part of his stock muffler. Geeteethree mentioned is his second email # 6 that he scrubbed it and it wont come off.. that means, the oil burned into the aluminum and stained it.

Only way to get it out is to scrub it with scotch pad...but as i suggested to scrub it in the same direction as the texture of the brushed aluminum cover...that way it will remove the stain and still look oem...as scrubbing should be done with the same direction as to capture the same "brushed" texture finish of the aluminum cover...

For your info...just to clear things up...:)

Scotch pad will do the trick and if you have some time on your hands and want to go even further, remove the complete muffler and remove the outer cover that is stained and have it ceramic coated black. Polish the end tips of the muffler and when you put the cover back on it looks very good and if anything else ever drips you won't see it very much and it won't burn into the cover like it did now.

Looks like engine oil to me too. Chain lube only really gets on the shiney end cap were chain runs just over the top of it. He"s bulling you,or hasn"t got a clue.

You shouldn't need anything as abrasive as scotch pads or brake cleaner, it will mark your exhaust. I've had this problem on mine and all I use is a little degreaser on a rag and it comes right off. Its also good for cleaning tar and crap off under the tail section.
I use Yamaha Degreaser but anything like that will work fine
