Geeez, what a pain in the @rse

Took me 2-hours, due to short screws that meant I needed to bend some bits, also some small manufacturing defects that prevented holes lining up.

Good reminder of the fun ahead working on/with Italian stuff.

So, my question to anyone that has one, is the axle support arm horizontal, or angled like this:

Angled doesn't seems right...
Imagine the bike falling on the side....

Thats why i haven't gone for one of them, they look cheap and remind me of a micron stand. Im getting a Pierobon rear stand and a Harris front stand

I took about half an hour and am by no means a mechanic, far from it! Mine seemed to go together eventually, bit fiddly but together none the less. And certainly isn't angled like that, I would suggest taking it apart and try again? Failing that go to the dealer get them to sort it, if that's where you got it from? I didn't have to bend any bolts etc that's for sure! I wouldn't be happy with that fella.

Yup, this is going back to the dealer, or simply the bin :roll eyes:

Re quality, I spoke to a guy at FG Gubelleni, the manufacturer of this, plus the previous one piece item ..... obviously my words where a little lost.

I didn't alter the geometry in any way, just removed some burrs and squeezed shoulders a little so the nuts would reach bolt heads.

To me it seems miss-manufactured.

ok i put the bike on the newly constructed stand on level ground outside, the result is as suspected. measuring from the floor to the tip of the foot peg, the spindle side is 1cm lower than the other. I think that sounds reasonable and i have two theories but they might be complete toss here goes, when your spinning the back wheel round cleaning / lubing the chain you do it from the chain side so as you spin the wheel round you are likely to push it away from you ever so slightly, i mean pushing against it as you push the wheel round, if it was 100% flat or even worse, biased the other way, i think you might find the bike starts to come off the spindle. hence its safer to have it slightly cambered towards the spigot and makes no difference to the paddock stand ease of use. My next thought was if someone was sat on the bike i.e to get a feel for the pedal heights for example the bike does seem to sit absolutely straight with someone sat on it (we tried that as well).

Now Xbox if your is like 3-4cm down on one side then thats about as much use as the side stand!

three pics, the side on pic has nothing to do with the side stand, i just thought you can never get too many pics of a Tri on a side stand on a nice day.

I was going to get one, but the price difference was the equivalent of 130 euros between what they wanted and the usual price for a rear stand. Outrageous for a bit of bent metal pipework!

Will the stands available online for the 1198 fit or is it a different size?

Yep they fit.

So can we still get the "one piece" stand that you're referring to XBox? I assume the one piece is the same as the Ducati one I got for my S4Rs and its a delight to use, well made etc etc. Would have thought that the key dimensions would be much the same.

Is it that it's now cheaper to produce the 2 piece item, albeit with much less engineering quality :(

Hi mate , Just ordered this one thru Andersons...they have every type of stand you can think of and are Aussie built.

@ Wallaroo That Anderson stand is really nice. Very "trellis frame" ;-)

@ Xbox got the same 2 piece Ducati stand you have. Didn't have any problems putting it together, though it was tedious. But am going to go home and check the angle this evening. For the rest it seems to work well, nice rubber wheels

I also have the Ducati one made by Gubellini for my 848 also. I much preferred it's single piece design and the grey colour. I'm assuming the 848 and 1098 have same size rear hubs/stands. Then.... it does NOT fit on the 1199, I've tried. So be careful there are various pin sizes for the rear hubs.

@peted and @Delta One - this new two piece stand is also made by Gubellini and in all honesty, save my initial QA related issues, its construction is good.

No wobble and like I mentioned, surprisingly, the angle it holds the bike at seems to work in your favour when letting her down.

A bit of humble pie for me, but in fairness, I didn't have the bike to try it on at the time.

Anyhow, reason for the new design is apparently not cost saving, but in the interests of cheeper shipping. Gubellini quoted me EUR400 shipping for the 1-piece, due to the huge volume of the box - its far less on the new one, which must have been an issue for Ducati shipping to dealers.

Checked it this morning before going to work.

Both (old one piece and new 2 piece)stands are at an angle of a couple of degrees (3-4?) I measured both with bikes on them and the angles seem about the same.

I'll be honest, I'd never noticed it before, but using a spirit level it is clearly noticeable. Seems to be part of the design and intentional. (Oh and I did also check my floor while at it, and it's level ;-)

I'm guessing it's supposed to be that way. I bought the T-REX reversable fwd/backwrd stand , and when I put the bike on it and put the handle forward , the bike looked like it was leaning to the right. Scared the crap outta me ! It has a threaded rod with washer and a wingnut that goes through the axle , so I know it can't fall off. But , still makes me nervous. I looks like if I reversed the handle and raised it from the back , the angle would level it out ? Hav'nt tried it yet. Will still contact T-Rex to double check , but after seeing yours , It makes me think it's supposed to be that way.
