Assistance obtaining Wiring Diagram for a 2021 Panigale V4S

I aim to install Ducati heated grips on my 2019 V4S, that is lacking the necessary wiring, switch, and indicator on the instrument panel. I've acquired the grips and switch and plan to purchase the 2021 instrument panel, albeit at a high cost. The 2021 panel supplies power to the grips through pin 12, which is unused on the 2019 version. However, I'm unsure about the pin that receives input from the heat switch to the panel.

I'm reaching out for help in obtaining a copy of the 2021 V4S wiring diagram or guidance on where to find one. Additionally, for any experts in this field, I've noticed a change in the Riding Modes between the 2019 and 2021 models. The 2021 version has Race1 and Race2, while the 2019 only has Race. Despite fewer Parameter Settings for different Riding Modes in 2021, I assume this won't pose a problem. Notably, the ECU has different part numbers between 2019 and 2021, but I anticipate they will still work together, with the panel sending either default or custom parameters to the ECU. Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Why not just wire them to the battery directly? Sounds very, very expensive and a real pain to go down your route. Or sell the OEM and get some oxfords or similar.
You could build a simple circuit with a relay, a red LED warning light that lets you know they are on and a small switch with a rheostat. Heated grips are pretty basic, just a 12v heating pad. Recently I made my own to repair a grip that stopped working on one of my bikes, cost $4!

I appreciate your feedback. It's true, I could create a logic circuit to amplify power to the grips when the heat switch is pressed. However, my goal was to maintain the design and components as faithful as possible to the Ducati model employed in later versions. I suppose it's a matter of personal preference.

Thank you for the feedback. I've begun researching the role of the BBS and how it communicates with other systems via the CAN bus. If I can obtain a wiring diagram and verify that the grips are linked to the BBS, it might pose an issue since the 2019 V4S lacks built-in connectivity.

I stand corrected. It doesn't run through the BBS at least according to the 2020 Panigale V4 916 Anniversary service manual. It looks like it wires into the "accessory devices" (55) and a bunch of other ancillary devices

Thank you for the update. I'm planning to visit my Ducati dealer to see if they can demonstrate on their system the wiring connections for these devices (grips, switch, and instrument display). Unfortunately, I haven't been able to locate a service manual for the Panigale V4S 2021, and neither Ducati nor the dealers are willing to provide a printed wiring diagram. As a result, I have to resort to notes from the relevant parts of the drawings on their system, which is not very helpful

If a dealer local to you isn’t willing to share a wiring diagram I don’t know how much success you’ll find. It’s not a matter of merely plugging in a new dash, installing the grips, right switches and everything works. IIRC, the bikes mileage is stored on the dash, BBS and ECU. At a minimum you’d have to write that, which the only way the bike does it is to write the highest value onto the other parts. You’d also have to make sure whatever software version is on the dash is compatible with all of the other controllers. If you had a Texa you could flash different software on the dash, BBS etc., but that’s a rather significant investment. Not that it can’t be done, but the cost involved to add heated grips?

Thank you for your response. I'm expecting a call back from my dealer tomorrow to arrange a visit and review the wiring diagram they possess. I've been informed that the grips receive power from pin 12 on the 2021 instrument panel. If the switch is also connected to the panel, it would simplify matters, allowing me to modify the wiring harness accordingly. While I'm hopeful that the panel will be compatible with other controllers on the CAN bus, I can't be certain. However, they all communicate using the same language, and I haven't come across any significant differences between the 2019 and 2021 panels. It's likely that the bike will need to be taken to the dealer to register the grips and potentially link the panel with the ECU. If it doesn't work I will build a logic board to monitor the pushes on the heat switch to step up the current to the grips and discretely locate an LED.

The owners manual on ducati.com for the Panigale V4S 2020 year and earlier have the wiring diagram, but for some reason they stopped including the diagram for my2021 and later. Not sure what the differences between my2020 and my2021 is, but the my2020 version might provide a little insight.

I didn’t think the 2020 and older models were pre-wired for optional heated grips. The Streetfighter V4 is also pre-wired for heated grips. There may be a wiring diagram for it out in the wild.

Thank you for your response. I have downloaded several owner's manuals from the Ducati site and indeed, they have ceased to include wiring diagrams after 2020. It's worth noting that starting from the 2021 model year, the Panigale V4S is compatible with the heated grip accessory, as the bike incorporates the necessary supporting features. I've also obtained the owner's manual for other models like the Streetfighter, which the heated grip compatibility chart supports. Unfortunately, these manuals do not include the wiring diagram either.

Thank you for your reply. Upon reviewing the heated grip compatibility chart, I observed that the Streetfighter was supported. However, upon downloading the owner's manual, I was disappointed to find that the wiring diagram was not included.

No, I am not an AI bot. I'm not sure why you think so. A bot wouldn't be interested in adding heated grips to its Ducati. To return to the main topic, you can open the link below.
