Best Heated Socks are . . .

I'm quickly becoming addicted to cold weather riding due to the heated clothing technology that I've recently discovered (yeah I know it's been around forever).

Living in Ohio I'm used to months on end of walking past my covered bikes as I get into my cage each day for work or whatever else.

Today I took my first ever ride in sub thirty degree weather (27*F) to test out my DIY Termi slip-ons and new DP racing seat. I was also fired up to test out my dual layered Olympia Motosport coat/jacket and dual layered pants with my brand new Gerbings G3 gloves.

First off, I couldn't believe how warm the Olympia combo was. I can't see a scenario where I'd ever need heated 'clothing' beyond hands and feet.

I always buy large gloves so I bought LARGE G3's and as warm and comfy as the gloves are, they are way too big for my hands. I will be selling these immediately after only wearing them one time, need mediums.

So, after an hour or so of riding I returned home feeling pleasantly surprised, body was warm, G3 wrapped hands were toasty but the toes were numb.

I've heard the heated insoles do not do a great job of keeping the entire foot and toes warm. I wonder if any battery powered or electric socks actually work as well as the gloves do.

So, does anyone have any feedback as to what works for them?

TIA

I do a lot of cold weather riding and use the Gerbing's G3s as well as a Gerbing's jacket liner. I have never needed heated lower body gear though. I seem to be fine with jeans under overpants or a pair of insulated riding pants. For my feet, I have a few pairs of mountaineering socks (you can find them at a climbing store, REI, EMS, etc.) and I wear those under my boots and my feet don't get cold on rides up to an hour. I don't do much beyond that in the cold though since the enjoyment is somewhat diminished due to all the layering of gear and worrying about possibly treacherous road conditions (salt, ice, etc.). I'd look into two aspects of your cold feet issue - insulating your feet and stopping wind from getting through your boots. There are a number of wind stopper type technologies out there (goretex, etc.) so you can either find boots that incorporate those or a liner or sock that does the same. If you have boots that flow a lot of air and are nice in the summer, those same boots will probably be awful in the winter. Kind of like when you wear running shoes outside in the winter you have that freezing air blowing through your shoes and it hits you that they really do have vents that actually work. It may be that you just need a pair of boots that are more suited to winter riding and don't flow as much air (leather or similar instead of mesh panels, etc.).

Lots of options out there without going with heated socks, but we learned in the other thread that everybody has different parts that cause them problems at different cold thresholds. I know Gerbing's does make heated pants and socks, but I haven't tried them personally so can't vouch for how well they work.
