-- i've been mounting and balancing myself - if you aren't, you should try it

-- if you use a local dealer, to remove/mount/balance/reinstall you'll probably be paying $150 for that service

-- bring your wheels in for tire removal/remount/balance/tire disposal fee, i'd guess at 25 to 50 per wheel at a dealer - 20 to 30 at a local non-dealer shop

-- it would vary by area, but for the NY Metropolitan area thats what the numbers are (approximately)

Got a second hand tire changer, the manual one, for 300 $. Very light, will be able to bring it to the track. Some folks offering trackside service are looking at us as if we were bank machines:rolleyes:
If you figure 20$ a tire I'll get my money back pretty quickly, not to mention that I get more mileage out of my tires since I can run them down to optimum wear.
As to the tires, I never bothered with the SP's, rear is ok, the front is very pushy and nowhere close to an SC1 even for spirited street riding. I usually run SC1's up front and SC2's on the rear, bring new stuff to the track and finish them up in the street.

no mar tire changer some of the best money I've spent.
The downside is all your friends expect you to change the tires (I don't mind it) but strangely enough they're put out when I ask them to take them off the bike! And I don't even charge to do the tires!

I've changed dozens of tires, more than paid for the changer, and the added benefit of knowing you're taking good care of the wheels. Most shops have the low man on the totem pole doing the tire changes.

My original tires I got about 3500 miles out of the rear including three track days, had some tread left but picked up a nail so trashed it.

Very nice! Love your garage.

When I return to GA, can you change my tires? Just kidding! :D

How much did your nice work stand cost you?

Thanks! The white tile was a mistake but I knew it'd be a bitch to keep clean. well if you come back to benning, and join our riding group I will change tires for you. All the riding group guys/gal get that. No probs :)

The lift is a Handy SAM1000 pneumatic, I think I paid about $800 delivered. Harbor freight makes a pretty good one for less than half that.

Really nice garage and set up zvez. Considering what they charge, I'll bet it paid off several fold.

+1 on the No-Mar ! anyone thinking about it should simply "just do it" - I'm up to having changed 50+ sets.....by the second set, the No-Mar had paid for itself - after I found myself in the garage at midnight changing my friends tires because he had to get to the track in the morning, did I convince him to buy one himself with the trailer hitch mount (whew!) -- I can't believe shops charge for this :)

I really don't know why I didn't think to purchase a tire changer. After looking at the cost, it makes more sense than any other part I've bought for my bikes. This is my next purchase. Thanks Zvez!!!

NP,
FYI nomar came out with the slightly less expensive cycle hill line,

You can't go wrong with any of them, buy a combo set tho is best:

Tire Changers

watch some of the videos they have on the site.

One addition I would recommend as it's better than the nomar demount tool is the no scuff tire tool:

No-scufftiretool

Thanks for the links and info ZVEZ! This puts a whole new spin on things...
I hate getting raped on tire changes!!!

Also, it it really that easy to get the tire/rim balanced?

yep, you get a spin balancer with the no mar. I've had no issues in all the tires I've done, you just have to take your time.

No Mar has great vids on doing everything with the changer.

Here's the nomar vid on balancing:
