Brake Fluid Reservoir Leak. Spoiled Instrument Panel Display.

Just back from a ride and noticed the Brake fluid spilled all over the windscreen and the instrument panel display. Noticed the reservoir cap came loose and had it tighten it by hand. Even though I wiped it off as soon as I noticed, it looked like the brake fluid already ate through the plastic on the instrument display and left white marks all over it. Read from another post here that this brake fluid is very corrosive and the marks are permanent.

This is my first Ducati (v4). Have a few questions.

Does something like this happen frequently and do I have to check the tightness of the brake fluid reservoir cap every time I ride?

Will this be covered under warranty? The display looks an absolute mess right now.

Good evening,

Mine also leaked and corroded my dash when I first got the bike. Turns out its a known issue, the reservoirs and dash panel were replaced under warranty no questions asked.

Speak to your dealer and see what they say

Contact your dealer immediately. Be nice about it but firm, and avoid the blame game.
It happened on my 959 long after the warranty had run out so was on my own.

You bought the warranty with the bike.

Corrected to remove the question mark.
That was unintentional.

In the US, base warranties automatically transfer with the sale. Just show up at the dealer and assuming they want to warranty the issue, Ducati covers the repair. If you have a valid warranty concern and dealer will not repair, due for breech of warranty. Manufacture owns the burden of proof, not the owner.

Doesn't matter if you're not the original owner. You still get the original factory warranty.

you might be thinking about the old days when a warranty was not necessarily transferable to the new owner. these days, the warranty is tied to the vin so it really don't matter who owns the vehicle. in some cases, a change in ownership might shorten the original warranty but in most cases, the warranty will begin when the vehicle is originally purchased, not when the next owner takes possession (meaning you might not have a lot of time left on the warranty).

Awesome. Thank you. Just checked and the website says the same. It starts when the bike first gets registered and will be transfered to the new owner.

Now hopefully this gets covered under the warranty.

Reviving this thread...I got some brake fluid on my instrument panel from a lowside. Is there anything I can do to fix it? Doesn't look like the bezel is replaceable? Maybe wetsand?

I just cleaned up my 1199 dash from having white spots from gas splatter. I used metal polish to get the spots off, then applied a speedo angel ultra clear protector. It looks brand new now!:)

I found some product called Flitz and it worked wonders! Good as new. Time to throw on a screen protector.
