Built in maps

Seems that the pani comes with built in maps that can be changed with software on a flash drive. This begs a few questions:

- how many maps are there sitting on our bikes?
- if my shop lays their hands on this flash drive can they use it on multiple bikes?

Itd be nice to have a quick way to deactivate flapper valves, o2 sensors etc without ecu reflashes. Anyone played with this? Or spoken to techs about the ease of doing it?

(ps first post... Hi everyone! Already found tons of invaluable stiff from all your posts. Picking up a pani s imminently...)

I suspect the new map is on the key and not already on the bike, but I could be wrong. I also doubt the key can be used on more than one bike. Anyone know for sure? I'd love to get my hands on a used termi map update key, just for a look-see.

The maps are transferred from the key to the bike.

When multiple maps are loaded on a bike, you can only swap between them with the Ducati Service computer.

Makes sense. Do you have an answer to my second question? Can a drive off a termi kit be used on multiple bikes?

Thanks,

Andrew

My dealer's mech told me NO. The up map for the Termi installation is "mated" to the bike when it is first loaded.

Though, to be honest, they haven't actually done one yet. But, this is what they were told in 1199 school.

I guess real world experience will tell.

When you install the Termi upmap from the memory stick it swaps the maps so you end up with a std map on the stick so no use to another bike

Some clarification, if any could hellp...

Is there 2 items for the Termi upmap?

ITEM A) Key - as in a physically new ducati ignition key?
ITEM B) Memory stick - that plugs into the bike's cables.....similar the DDA?

Or there is only one ITEM for upmap?

To my knowledge there is only one way to upmap and that is with the USB type connection on the bike that the dealer would have to do for us. But here is a thought. I ordered a tri that I will be picking up in the next week or two. It should have one upmap with the bike for when I put the termi cans on and I should get a second one for when I install the full system header pipes I ordered. Does this sound right? If so I might have a upmap for set of slip on cans that I won,t be using, as at he first service they are installing the full system on to the bike.

That is correct you will get a full system upmap will the downpipes kit

There are currently three maps:

1) Standard map in the bike
2) RACING map that comes with Termi slip ons (on a solid state memory key)
3) RACING EVO map that comes with headers (on a solid state memory key)

I'm pretty sure all the maps remain in the bikes ECU once installed, rather than swapping out. This makes more sense, should you need to revert back for any reason.

Regarding multiple use, they are def supposed to lock into the first bike they are plugged into, so can't be shared around!

i would think all maps already existed in the stock ECU and memory key is just a code for the software logic to select the specific existing map.

if it was raceMAP rather then keycode, any mess-up (noise-interference/battery drop..unforseen accidents) while transfer over usb, the completedly written maps may be loss or worst get corrupted.

if the keycode is mess-up, the ECU could drop back to the always existing stock map, bike still could run normally.
Seems safer imho, to lose key-code rather than race/stockMAP corruption in the ECU's flash.Re-writing considerable flash size in the field seems more risky than authenticating keycode...
but then just my guess.

Well, let's hope that someone works out how to crack this quickly. Why make it so hard to switch off the closed circuit/flapper crap we have to put up with for emissions?

Hypothetical here. But what if someone wanted to switch back to the stock cans after they had the Termi cans installed? The only scenario I could think of that happening is if they wanted sell their 1199 without the Termi cans installed, and sell those separately. So I guess the question is, does the purchaser of the Termi cans get to keep the up-map USB key? And can they use it to switch back to the base map?

That's a very good question. I wod def like to know that as well

It is all stored in the key, so if you go back to the standard system, just plug in the key and it will be transfered back with all the data needed.

There are 5 maps on the bike from the factory. The standard map, the map for the Termi silencers and the map for the full Termi system. The use of the other two maps are unknown at this time. The dongle enables the ECU to use a given map. The maps are not on the dongle. This is from my tuner. He has directly accessed the ECU and looked at the maps. He is working on developing custom maps for the bike in conjunction with some other tuners. The critical work right now is to reverse engineer the firmware so the relationship between the 70+ tables in the ECU can be understood. Once this is understood then it will be clear how to tune properly without impacting things like the traction control.

@ Ray916 SOunds like you have a handle on this. I'd be very interested to hear more, can you post some more when you get some news from your Tech/tuner??

So if you clone the dongle onto another before you use it on your bike, could the cloned copy be used on another bike while you use the original on your bike?

5 MAPS
1 for RACE
1 for SPORT
1 for WET
1 for Termi Full (EVO)
1 for Termi Slip-on

is it?
