Hi guys,

I test rode the 1199 last week end and it is a blast. the acceleration is great, the handling is great and the brakes are really awesome. the question now is , should I get one right now or wait it out and wait for an R version? a part of me is saying that the bike is pretty much complete with abs, ebc, quick shift, top of the shelf ohlins, forged marchesini's etc. There is almost no room additional features . On the other hand, we all know that the 916-998, 999, and the 1098 has R models, so is it logical to say that an 1199r is on its way too?

Yes there is definitely a R coming and it's going to have KERS. A first for a production bike. Not sure what else but from what I hear this is the big ticket item.

Better start saving though pennies mate !! It's gonna be expensive in the Philippines.

An R could be quite a wait. Normally after a season or 2 of race parts have been developed. The 1199 is only being developed in Superstock now so.... they might wait untill they've had a year in Superbike? That would mean a 2014 R model, but I could be way off there.

prices here are 2x than the us price, but not as high as in taiwan, malaysia and China where the bikes are almost tripple the price. about this article

2013 Ducati 1199R Panigale Will Have Electric Power | Ducati News Today

Next years Ducati 1199R will take the already über tech Panigale to new heights when the World Superbike homologation special will debut with the Ducati Energia™ Kinetic Energy Recovery system.

Many commentators, including this site, were puzzled when Ducati announced that they wouldn't be racing their brand new Ducati 1199 Panigale in the 2012 World Superbike Championship. Instead the company decided to homologate the new bike for the FIM Superstock Cup this year meaning the 1198R needed to soldier on for one more year.

At the time we wondered whether the delay might be related to the finalization of the series rules for 2013 as Ducati were known to be most unhappy with the air restrictor that the 1198 must use in the championship.

It turns out to be much more complex than that as sources have revealed to us that the racing homologation version of the Panigale to be termed the 1199R will feature Ducati's all new Energia kinetic energy recovery system (KERs) as seen on Formula 1 machines.

This radical new development will make the 1199 an even more formidable competitor on track as energy recovered during braking will accelerate a tiny flywheel that will be able to release a stunning thump of additional torque and acceleration as the bike exits the turn.

Although the concept is not new and used in automotive racing applications, the Ducati Energia system will mark the first use of such technology on two wheels. Porsche is expected to include the system in the next generation 911. This means the 1199R will continue the trend of ground breaking technology seen on the 2008 Ducati 1098R which introduced traction control to a production motorcycle for the first time.

With the launch of the Multistrada 1200, Diavel and now the Panigale, Ducati clearly has its sights set on being the leading motorcycle manufacturer when it comes to the implementation of cutting edge technology on two wheels. Details of the Ducati Energia system are hard to come by but we would expect the bike to debut at the 2012 Milan show this November. Certainly the company has been working on the concept for some considerable time judging by the Ducati Energia US trademark that has been filed.

Those who have ordered and are just taking delivery of their Ducati 1199S Panigale Tricolore will have just 12 months or so before their über Superbike will be surpassed by the Ducati 1199R Panigale Energia.

sadly this is only an April Fools joke done by Ducatinewstoday, I was led to believe that it is the real thing:rolleyes:

How much will a R be and are they actually going to release one?

let's see, the 1198sp sold for around 22,000us$ while the 1198r corse retailed for 39,999$ in the U.S. so we can assume that the price is around 85% more than the Panigale s. this is just my estimate, any one's guess is as good as mine.

Right now I really like the Panigale S . but I have this thing for buying hop up parts to the extent that after a year, the parts is more expensive than the bike itself. I was thinking if I muster the emotional maturity to hold of the purchase I can save money if I buy the R version when it comes out.

Carlos Checa will test the wsbk version of the Panigale in July.

Pretty sure this was confirmed as a April fools story

KERS? On a bike? It just won't work. Think you may be referring to the April fools on Ducati News Today.

As well, I would be a little surprised if Ducati came out with a 1199r. They only made the 1098r so they could homogenise the new motor with Ti valves, Vacuum cast casings and the all important extra 100cc. Not much left to improve on the current S/Tri 1199 model as it is.

There will always be something better. That's what they guys at Ducati do. Making better .... !! Audi didn't buy Ducati cause they made a bike that couldnt be improved on anymore. There is always better around the next corner. You think Ducati doesn't want your money anymore?

Would be glad if there is no R version. That would mean that the tri sits on top.

You almost had the answer in your title....

Buy one now AND wait for the R!

Job done.

If I win the lottery why not, however reality dictates that I must work my ass off so buying both bikes is not even an option:D but in the perfect world I like the wa you roll.

I am new to Ducati's and your time frame is just about right. Does anyone here know how long did they release the 1098r after releasing the base 1098?

what does the highlighted portion mean?

as for improving the current 1199, It would be hard since it has all the electronics such as ebc, abs, ducati quick shift, not to mention the cool ducati electronic suspension and it has 195hp already, 9 more than the 1198r. However during the World Ducati week in my country done last weekend, one of the engineers stated that a more aggresive ecu map can easily increase the 1199's horsepower to 215. I was very impressed.

from what I read in some articles in the internet (we all know how accurate internet news can be), Audi will let Ducati operate independently and will provide funds for development. I would not be surprised if they release a 1199 wohrl edition or a Ducati ATV quattro

He means Homologation. Homologation is basically the process whereby 3rd party independent surveyors verify that a bike (or car) meets the technical specifications and sometimes sales or production targets of a particular (or several) racing classes.

For example Ducati homologated the 1199 for WSBK SUperstock this year. This involved showing and providing tech specs to those certifying that the bike meets the rules for superstock. It also meant they had to keep 300 Panigale's at the factory to prove that this was a production bike of which atleast 300 would be sold to the public.

Ducati will homologate the 1199 for WSBK Superbike next year, however they could homologate a slightly different model from this years 1199 so that it can take advantage of anything they learned in superstock this year.

Reason for doing so is that they are only allowed to change certain things from the standard homologated version according to the various race "classes". So in order to change certain things on the bike they race, they must first change the bike they sell to us, the public.
